Although he died at an early age, Domino brings the influence of Whalebone, Whisker and Web.
5 to Domino. Domino appears three times in the fifth generation of Three Bars’ pedigree. Leo was sired by Joe Reed II. The broodmare sire of Joe Reed II was Fleeting Time by High Time, who was intensely inbred to Domino. High Time was sired by Ultimus
by Commando by Domino. The dam of Ultimus was Running Stream by Domino. The dam of High Time was Noonday by Domino. This gives High Time a breeding pattern of 3 X 3 X 2 to Domino. Top Deck was a King Ranch bred Thoroughbred that was influenced by the blood of Domino. Top Deck has a breeding pattern of 4 X 4 to Peter Pan, a son of Commando by Domino.
Stockwell was the sire of Doncaster,
who was the sire of Bend Or, a famous Thoroughbred. Bend Or in turn was the
sire of *Golden Garter, who was the sire of Lobos, who was the sire of Dennis Reed - an Army Remount stallion. Dennis Reed is best known to the Quarter Horse industry as the sire of Oklahoma Star P-6.
Sir Hercules was the sire of Faugh-A- Baugh, who started his own branch of the Whalebone sire line. Faugh-A-Baugh was the sire of Leamington, who was imported to America, and he is the sire of Reform. Reform is the sire of Roseville, the dam of Ben Brush.
Ben Brush brings us back to Top Deck, who has a 4 X 4 X 5 breeding pattern to Broomstick, a son of Ben Brush. Thus, Top Deck carries
the combination of Domino and Ben Brush, both tracing to Whalebone. Top Deck’s primary influence has been through horses like Moon Deck and Go Man Go. Moon Deck was the sire of Top Moon and Jet Deck, and the grandsire
of Easy Jet; while Go Man Go was a 3-time AQHA World Champion Quarter Horse
who is found in the pedigrees of such noted horses as 2-time AQHA World Champion and phenomenal sire Dash For Cash.
Myrtle Dee was the dam of Three Bars. She was sired by Luke McLuke, who was sired by Ultimus, the double-bred Domino stallion. The dam of Myrtle Dee was Civil Maid by Patriot by Ben Brush, making her the product of the Domino/Ben Brush cross.
The Domino/Ben Brush cross came about because of the death of Domino and his son Commando at an early age. The stallion brought in to replace them was Ben Brush and the Ben Brush/Domino cross was born.
Reform was the sire of Enquirer as well as the sire of the dam of Ben Brush. Enquirer was the sire of Mannie Gray, the dam of Domino. Mannie Gray had a full brother named Faustus, who was the sire of Bonnie Joe. Bonnie Joe was the sire of the famed racehorse Joe Blair. When Joe Blair was bred to Della Moore, the Cajun-bred running mare, she produced Joe Reed P-3. Of course, Joe Reed P-3 was the sire of Joe Reed II and Joe Reed II was the sire of Leo.
The dam of Oklahoma Star P-6 has proven to be an interesting study in contradictions. She is reported in the AQHA Stud Book
as being sired by a Quarter Horse named Gulliver. But, many believe that her sire was Bonnie Joe. Thus, we have another significant contribution from Whalebone through the Faugh-A-Baugh line to Oklahoma Star P-6.
It has to be noted that Oklahoma Star P-6 and his dam have descendants that are prominent in today’s running Quarter Horse. FDD Dynasty is a 2-time AQHA Champion and a leading sire. He is the sire of horses
like 2013 AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old
Prominent Sons of Whalebone
The prominent sons of Whalebone we will look at have influenced the breed and have been a big part of Whalebone’s influence through the sire line. We will also show how they have influenced the pedigree as a whole.
Sir Hercules, a good son of Whalebone, was a racehorse winning such races as the Claret Stakes and placing in the famous St. Leger Stakes. Sir Hercules became the sire of Birdcatcher, who in turn became the sire of The Baron, who was the sire of Stockwell.
A mare named Maud was a daughter of Stockwell and she was the dam of Alarm, who was the sire of Himyar. This is the Himyar
that is the sire of Domino, who is found in the pedigrees of such noted progenitors as Three Bars, Leo, Top Deck, Sugar Bars and Band Time.
Here are a couple of examples of the Domino influence on the Quarter Horse. Three Bars has a breeding pattern of 5 X 5 X
Domino is found in the pedigrees of such noted progenitors as Three Bars, Top Deck and Sugar Bars.
