in Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is also the home of the famous Belle Mead Stud. The Belle Mead Stud never stood *Glencoe, but they stood several other horses that appear
in our story. They would include Bonnie Scotland, Enquirer and Bramble. They also stood Highlander and Vandal, who were both sons of *Glencoe and that takes us to our next foundation Quarter Horse sire that was influenced by Web.
Peter McCue was sired by the Quarter Horse Dan Tucker. His dam was a Thoroughbred mare named Nora M by Voltigeur, who was sired by Vandal by *Glencoe. The dam of Voltigeur was Duet by Highlander by *Glencoe. The dam of Nora M was Kitty Clyde by Star Davis, who was sired by *Glencoe. This makes Nora M 3 X 4 X 3 linebred to *Glencoe.
Whisker was the third sibling to come from the mating of Waxy and Penelope. Whisker was like Whalebone in that he was
a good racehorse. He counted among his wins the Derby Stakes and the Port Stakes. Whisker was the great grandsire of the stallion King Tom, who was sired by Harkaway by Economist by Whisker. King Tom was out of Pocahontas, who was a daughter of *Glencoe. *Glencoe was the grandson of Web.
Whisker sired Economist and he sired Echidna. This mare is the dam of The Baron, who is the sire of Stockwell. Of course, we have seen Stockwell several times in this material.
The Siblings Pedigree
The appearance of Whalebone, Web
and Whisker in these individuals allows us
to profile the influence of line breeding to collateral relatives. A look at the pedigree of these three individuals shows that they have a line breeding influence on their pedigree. The horses that constitute this line breeding form a nick as well - a nick that had a big role in the development of the Thoroughbred. The three stallions that have nicked are Herod, Snap and Blank.
Herod, foaled in 1758, was great-great grandson of the Byerly Turk, who was one of the three famous Thoroughbred foundation sires. Herod was a successful racehorse
that became an even greater sire. He was
the leading sire in Great Britain for eight years, starting in 1777 and running through 1784. His foals include Diomed, Florizel, Woodpecker and Highflyer. Diomed was the first winner of the Epsom Derby in 1780. He was eventually imported to America where he sired Sir Archy, the famous foundation sire for the American Thoroughbred and the American Quarter Horse.
Snap, or Old Snap as he was known, was foaled in 1750. He was bred by Cuthbert
