Filly Kates Dynasty, as well as 2015 Vessels Maturity-G1 winner Far Niente, and 2015 Governor’s Cup Futurity winner Phoebes Dynasty. Brazilian Dasher is a 1/2-sister to FDD Dynasty, and she is the dam of 2015 All American Derby-G1 winner Apollitical Blood, and 2015 Golden State Juvenile Invitational winner Apollitical Dynasty.
The dam of FDD Dynasty and Brazilian Dasher is Dinastia Toll BRZ. This mares traces to Black Widder, the seventh dam in the tail female line of Dinastia Toll BRZ. Black Widder is sired by Oklahoma Star P-6. The dam of Black Widder is Cutthroat, the dam of Oklahoma Star P-6. This is a breeding pattern of 2 X 1 to Cutthroat.
The next influential son of Whalebone was Camel, who sired Touchstone and Touchstone sired Orlando. Next in this line is Eclipse or American Eclipse, as he was known by some. Eclipse is the sire of Alarm, the sire of Himyar and the grandsire of Domino.
Camel is followed by Waverly as an influential son of Whalebone. Waverly sired Don John and he was the sire of Iago, who then became the sire of Bonnie Scotland. Bonnie Scotland, who started his journey in England, ended up in America and became a very influential sire.
We can continue with Bonnie Scotland by looking at his third dam. She was Myrrha, a daughter of Whalebone. Myrrha was the dam of the Plenipotentiary Mare. This mare was the dam of Queen Mary, who was the dam of Bonnie Scotland. This makes Bonnie Scotland 4 X 4 linebred to Whalebone.
Bonnie Scotland figures prominently into our look at the role of Whalebone. Bonnie Scotland was the sire of Bramble, who was
the sire of Ben Brush. Bonnie Scotland was the sire of the mare Bonnie Rose, who was the dam of Bonnie Joe. Of course, this brings us back to Bonnie Joe being the sire of Joe Blair, the sire of Joe Reed P-3; and if Bonnie Joe was the sire of Cutthroat, then we are back to Oklahoma Star P-6.
Web, a full sister to Whalebone, made an interesting contribution to the influence for the Dukes of Grafton on the Quarter Horse. As you will see, this interesting contribution comes from the great stallion *Glencoe. Web produced the mare Trampoline by Tramp in 1825. Trampoline foaled *Glencoe in 1831 when bred to Sultan.
*Glencoe was bred by the Fifth Earl of Jersey. This chestnut stallion raced in 1834 and 1835. He won the Riddlesworth Stakes, Desert Stakes, Goodwood Cup, Garden Stakes and the 2000 Guineas Stakes. He was third to Plenipotentiary in the Derby Stakes. James Jackson, an American from Alabama, bought *Glencoe in 1836.
*Glencoe stood his first season at stud
in England and in that first crop sired the mare Pocahontas, who has become a very important ingredient in the pedigrees of many famous racehorses. The primary reason for her role in the modern racehorse is the fact that many believe she is the link to the large heart gene that is carried on the X Chromosome. The racing legend Secretariat inherited this large heart gene, and he has 249 crosses to Pocahontas in his pedigree.
Pocahantas proved to be a good race mare that would go on to produce some very significant foals. Among her foals was Stockwell, who appeared above with his ties to Whalebone. This gives us our first
look at the combination of Whalebone and Web in one pedigree. Some other foals out of Pocahontas were King Tom (successful sire), Rataplan (successful sire), Ayacanora, Auricula, Araucaria and Knight Of Kars.
When we look at the pedigree of Domino on his dam’s side of the pedigree, we see that his dam is a daughter of Lizzy G. Lizzy G was sired by War Dance, who was out of Reel. Reel was sired by *Glencoe. The dam of Lizzy G was a mare known today as the Lecompte Mare by Lecompte, who was out of Reel by *Glencoe. Thus, we have two more crosses to Web through another daughter of *Glencoe. Reel is considered one of the all time great American broodmares with a great influence on the American Thoroughbred.
The dam of the Lecompte Mare was Edith, who was out of Judith by *Glencoe. Thus, we have three crosses in the dam of Domino to Web through her good grandson *Glencoe.
*Glencoe stood at stud in Alabama. Then when his owner died, he was taken to stand
