The qualifying races to the Juvenile Championship were run on Nov. 25 with 30 two year old entrants from which the finalists for this 400 yard open classic were held with a purse of $1,291,500 pesos ($63,145 US approx.).
The filly Whatta Ko topped the list of finalist times, with :19.405, followed closely
by Moment Too Moment and Chocazoom. At the start of the finals, the runners in the four positions closest to the inner rail immediately stood out for their good start. However, about 100 yards away, the filly Majhadani fell, and lost her rider Reynaldo Lázaro, and fractured her front limbs and was euthanized on the spot. Her rider did not suffer significant injury.
The race continued, alternating the leading positions between First Kool Dynasty (#2) and RP Lil Brown Wagon (#3) accompanied by DF Medford (#1) at a close range. It was this trio that arrived at the wire. The photo revealed the winner to be the impressive red bay colt First Kool Dynasty under the direction of Martín Hernández Bautista, stopping the clock at :19.47 (SI 97).
First Kool Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-First Kool Money, First Smart Money) got his ticket to this final with the tenth fastest time (:19.724). In his three previous starts, he had only achieved a first and a third place finish.
This explains why he was one of the least preferred at the betting windows, closing with 42.55 odds, without a doubt one of the best payments of the season.
Bred in the United States
by Stuart and Strebig, First
Kool Dynasty was purchased
by veterinarian Rachuán
Suárez Kury for $13,000
during the Heritage Place Fall
Mixed Sale, who in turn sold
the colt to Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará, for which he currently runs.
Jorge Adrián Jarillo Sánchez was the trainer responsible for saddling him, although the daily preparation is the responsibility of Rigoberto Reyes. For this victory, they depos- ited $542,430 pesos ($26,521 US approx.).
Second place was occupied by the hardened RP Lil Brown Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Fast Dash Tanisha) directed by José Ángel Ambrosio Medina for Cuadra El Manantial and trainer Jorge Alberto Ruiz Peribán. He is the winner of the Alfredo Castro Rea Classic.
Third place went to DF Medford (Apollitical Jess-Parkers Vespa), who was ridden by Alejandro Gómez Díaz. The colt
belongs to Cuadra San Judas Tadeo and was saddled by Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
The other finalists finished as follows: Whatta Ko (Corona Cartel–Whatta Knockout), Chocazoom (Azoom–Spin The Pages), Moment Too Moment (Lotta PYC–Britts Special Eyes), Shazam B (Freighttrain B–Sheza Lilbituino), The Deadline (Favorite Cartel–
Flying Regal) and Keep Counting (Kiddy Up–Million Ways). As previously mentioned, the filly Majhadani (Mighty Invictus–First By Far), owned by Haras Ixbiapan, had an acci- dent and did not cross the finish line.
