OILPATCH CHAMISA V
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Aclassic open for two year olds with no wins at the time of nomination, this race was run at 300 yards and had a prize of $227,700 pesos ($11,096 US approx.).
Of eight runners entered, the filly First Prize Jane scratched from Cuadra Santa Elena. Of the remaining seven, four were making their debut at the Hipodromo de
las Américas, including the
grey filly Oilpatch Chamisa
V, who took the victory
without incident, validating
the public’s preference.
When the gates opened,
the filly I Am An Illusion
stumbled, but did not
affect any rival. The
race was run clean, with
Oilpatch Chamisa V in
front. The filly drifted
sharply towards the center
of the field and held off
the sorrel Significant Legacy to cross the wire 3/4-length in front.
The time for the fast winner was :15.36 for a speed index of 90, very respectable for her
first out on the track of the Mexican capital. Oilpatch Chamisa V has participated in bush futurities such as the Javier Rosique Palavicini in the State of Tabasco, where she was second by a nose to Jordan Eagle (El Balajú), who was second in the Dash For Cash Juvenile Stakes; was the fastest qualifier and winner of the
Evangeline Downs Futurity. Special guest at the awards
ceremony was Jesús Jiménez Domínguez, son of the late horseman to whom this com- petition was dedicated. He was accompanied by his wife in the winner’s circle.
The grey filly Oilpatch Chamisa V is by Tempting Dash and out of Sixy Chamisa (by Sixes Royal) and was
bred in the United States by Valeriano Racing Stables LLC, who auctioned her as a yearling
in Ruidoso for $17,000. She was purchased
by veterinarian Rachuán Suárez Kuri for Cuadra San Judas Tadeo, located in the State of Chiapas. She opened her earnings account with
$136,620 pesos (approx. $6,657 US), also add- ing points for trainer Sergio Flores López.
Significant Legacy (Streakin La Jolla-Tiny Dash Of Cash) finished in second place, under the leadership of Rogelio Sáenz. The colt is owned by Cuadra Santa Rosa Chiapas and trained by Marion Abraham Quezada Colunga.
In third place was the colt Chief Moonflash (First Moonflash-Diamonds Rainbows), who is owned by Cuadra El Cuartel and trained by José Luis Tavizón Barraza, who entrusted the controls to rider Israel Dominguez Morales.
The other participants reached the goal in the following order: Demaret (Favorite Cartel– Miss Kittys Bar Bet), Keep It Down Now (No Secrets Here–New Porter), I Am An Illusion (One Dashing Eagle–Dash Master Miss) and Queen Mamba (One Sweet Jess–Jukebox
