Mexican Breeders Futurity “Moisés Molina” Consolation
N VOICES
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
This race is named in honor of the late jockey Moisés Molina Romo, who passed away on Dec. 10 as a result of a riding accident. During the awards ceremony, he received an emotional tribute in recogni- tion of his career by the Hipodromo de Las Americas, Mexican Association of Quarter Horse Breeders, horsemen and especially by his peers, the jockeys.
With the scratching of the filly Proud Freeda from Cuadra El Mashta, the consolation was run with nine participants. At the start, it was observed that Rojo Amanecer was bumped by LA Easy Fire Jess and Bloodmoon Garoo AT
at the start. The other runners came out to complete their task unhindered. The red bay colt N Voices, who led from the start under the com- mand of veteran rider Juan Carlos Alvarado, set the pace of the race. His only threat was from LA Easy Fire Jess and Y She Left, who did his best after running towards the external railing and losing valuable fractions of a second.
These three runners led the arrival at the finish, with N Voices in first 1 1/4-lengths in front of LA Easy Fire Jess and Y She Left in third by a nose. The colt by Native Cartel and out of Muted Voices by Ocean Runaway finished in :19.63 and earned a 93 speed index for the 400 yards.
The special guest at the
award ceremony was jockey
Moisés González García,
who presented the trophy to
Héctor Pablo Salinas, trainer
of N Voices, although he was
saddled by Marlon Abraham
Quezada Colunga. After the
presentation, all riders and
the relatives of Moisés Molina
entered the winner’s circle to
remember Moises Molina with
applause in spite of the sadness that all felt.
The win by N Voices marked his fifth triumph from 11 starts. He was awarded $100,995 pesos (approx. $4,938 US) of the $201,990 pesos (approx. $9,876 US dollars) purse allocated to this race. Bred by Rancho Hacienda Santiago and consigned to the 2017 Selecta Yearling Auction, N Voices was repur- chased for $130,000 pesos (approx. $7,282 US).
The colt LA Easy Fire Jess (Rapid Fire Jess- Easy Place Sue) was second under Francisco Javier Fernández for owner Cuadra Los Gavilanes and trainer Rubén Romo García. The colt was bred by Ramiro González Ozuna.
Third place went to Y She Left (Azyoucansee-She Left You), who was ridden
by Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. The colt is owned by Cuadra Las Palmas, trained by Víctor Hugo Ruiz Carapia and was bred by Rancho Hacienda Santiago.
The following finalists also participated: Bloodmoon Garoo AT (Kangaroofirst– Pistol Packn Mama), Paint Me Fire (Walk Thru Fire– Paint Me Golden), Rojo
Amanecer (Sambaso Dancer–Marea Roja), El Pavo Real (Danny Cartel–Serenity Starlet), Sky Fast Beduino (Whathaveigottado–Fast Chicks) and Mezcalero GC (Native Jewel DH–BT Roses For Nemo).
IN MEMORIAM
MOISÉS MOLINA ROMO: HIS PATH
A native of San Juan de Los Lagos, State
of Jalisco, “Moy” was 35 years old at the time of his passing. After riding in match races,
on March 4, 2012, he made his debut at the Hipódromo de las Américas, riding Big Momas Feature from Cuadra Flor de María and mark- ing the first win to his record. Guadalupe Victorio Inzunza, trainer of said stable, gave him the opportunity to ride at the Hipodromo, where with dedication and continued commit- ment, he forged a trajectory that led him to ride great Quarter Horses from the best cuadras.
At the end of his career, his record consists of 1,045 mounts, of which he obtained 146 first places, 144 seconds and 127 thirds with a win rate of 39.9%. He won 18 classics, the first of which was the AQHA Maiden Challenge of Mexico on April 29, 2012, aboard the filly Just Wanna Have Fun from Cuadra OEMA. With consistent success, he added the Champion of Champions in December with the filly Lyla
G, who was second but moved to first place by disqualification of Time For Streaking.
In the 2013 season, he conquered eight clas- sics, three with the filly One Famous Episode (Easily A Possum, AMCCCCM and AQHA Challenge Derby of Mexico) and two with the grey Fanci Feet 123 (Velocidad and Merced Gómez Orozco Clasicos). He also won the Garañones Futurity (Chico Horse, by dis- qualification of NC Gucci Shoes), the Selecta Auction Derby (Horse Gamble) and the Mexican Breeders Futurity (Chimpa Dancer). There was doubt Moises was the rider with the best results, which were in turn recognized by the Mexican
