Lota Cac (Lota PYC-Crazy About Corona) finished a game second for Whiting Ranch. The R.L. Robinson trainee had James Flores aboard. Lota Cac was claimed in his start prior to the Speedhorse Derby trial. He won by 3-lengths in a claiming event and returned to run second in the trials. Hooked On A Win (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Pretty Girl Kate), the fastest qualifier and pre-race favorite, finished in third place as a three-race win streak came to an end. Regina Laymon owns Hooked On A Win, who is trained by Kenny Laymon and was ridden by Daniel Torres. The gelding won his trial by over 1-length. He has won five races in his career and was previously undefeated at Fair Meadows.
