Anselmo Aguilar Payan Classic
ZE DANCER ARANDAS
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The race in honor of Dr. Anselmo Aguilar Payan was contested between 10 rivals aged three years and older that were born in Mexico and whose owners paid the nomination and registration fees, totaling a purse of $463,700 pesos (approx. $23,334 US). The finals were run on July 1 over a distance of 350 yards.
Six of the runners were highlighted with classics in the current season: Ze Dancer Arandas and his paternal brother Dancer Fishers, Danny Chai and Cruzamar, as well as Champions N Sure and Valentino Mystery.
At the start, several runners had problems and allowed other participants an advantage, including Ze Dancer Arandas (#2), Valentino Mystery (#8) and Lafishingonabugsmoon (#3), who arrived at the finish in that order. Ze Dancer Arandas took the lead with his usual wide and firm stride, under the command of José Manuel Cisneros, while Valentino Mystery put pressure in the final yards, but was left 1/2-length from the winner, who crossed the finish line at :17.23 for a 97 speed index.
In this way, the grey colt trained by Epifanio Carrasco Sandoval won the second classic this season since he won the April 29 Mexico Derby. Just as two years ago, he did the
same in the Mexican Breeders’ Futurity, the Consolation of the Mexico Futurity, and of the Selecta Auction, the latter by disqualification of Rey De Reyes. His total record is 10-1-1 in 13 appearances.
A son of Ze Dancer
and out of Arandas Andy
(by Andy Sixes), the
colt was bred by Felix
Bañuelos, in turn the
owner of the Cuadra
Hacienda Vieja, on
behalf of which he runs
in the Hipódromo de
Las Américas. “We plan
to race in the Selecta
Auction Derby and in the
Mexican Breeders’, which
is where he can par-
ticipate against Mexican
rivals of his year and, by 2019, debut him as a stallion,” said José Hérnández, a member of the Cuadra Hacienda Vieja team.
The reward for this triumph was $278,200 pesos (approx. $14,007 US), with his earnings already exceeding $2.3 million pesos.
On behalf of Dr. Anselmo Aguilar Payán,
Víctor Manuel Valdés was at the awards. Dr. Aguilar, based in Culiacán, Sinaloa, is the owner of Cuadra La Presita, the birthplace of multiple Champions in Mexico through its mares and stallions. Also with a presence in the United
States (under the name of La Presita LLC), the performances of their foals at the Hipodromo de Las Américas have earned them the designation as Champion Breeder during the 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2018 thus far, they are second in the statistics of that division.
Valentino Mystery (Mr Queens Mystery-Valentina High) arrived in second place under Moisés Molina for Cuadra Arenas and trainer Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez. Valentino Myster is a
winner of multiple stakes races and about 4.9 million pesos, the highest that any runner has accumulated competing at the Hipodromo de Las Américas.
