THE SIRE
Scat Daddy was on the road to the
Triple Crown in 2006 as a 2 year old, with wins in Champagne Stakes-G1 and Sanford Stakes-G2. He was second in the Hopeful Stakes-G2, ending the year with three wins in five starts. Scat Daddy made his 3-year- old debut with a third in the Holy Bull Stakes-G3; then a first in the Fountain of Youth Stakes-G2 and a first in the prestigious Florida Derby-G1, setting him up for the Kentucky Derby.
But Scat Daddy came in unplaced in the Kentucky Derby. His unplaced finish in this race marked the end of his race career as he was retired due to a slight tendon injury that occurred during the Kentucky Derby. He retired with five wins in nine races, with one second and one third. He earned $1,334,300.
Johannesburg is the sire of Scat Daddy. Johannesburg was the 2001 Champion 2 Year Old in North America, England, Europe and France. He won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-G1 in the USA; Norfolk Stakes-G3 and the Middle Park Stakes-G1 in England; the Anglesley Stakes-G3 and the Phoenix Stakes-G1 in Ireland; and the Prix Morny Stakes-G1 in France. He finished eighth in the Kentucky Derby at three and, after a lackluster year as a non-winner of three starts, was retired with seven wins in 10 starts with earnings of $1,014,585.
Johannesburg is the sire of horses that have won over $90 million worldwide with 66 stakes winners. His stakes winners include the sprinter Eaton’s Gift, winner of the Swale Stakes-G2 at 6 1/2-furlongs and the Smile Sprint Handicap-G2 at 6 furlongs. Teuflesberg, by Johannesburg,
won the Sugar Bowl Stakes at 6 furlongs, the Woody Stephens Stakes-G2 at 7 furlongs and the Southwest Stakes at 8 furlongs. Teuflesberg is the sire of Trinniberg, the 2011 Sprint Champion and winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
