Here are a few more Scat Daddy runners that have earned over $100,000 that show this same pattern; El Bromista is 5x3x4; Knockout is 5x3x3; Wapi is 5x3x4; and Dice Flavor is 5x3x3. Justify is a little different in his linebreeding to Mr. Prospector, with a pattern of 5x3x5 to this great stallion.
Sadly, Scat Daddy died in December of 2015, the year Justify was born. As we look
at the 2018 Kentucky Derby, we see just
how significant this loss is. Scat Daddy sired four Kentucky Derby participants in Justify, Mendelssohn, Flameaway and Combatant. The last sire to have four Kentucky Derby runners in the same race was Chicle in 1923. The only other sire to do it was Enquirer, and he did twice in 1875 and in 1878. Scat Daddy is one up on them, as neither of these stallions sired a winner in the years they had four starters.
The interesting part of Chicle and Enquirer is they have had an Influence on
the racing Quarter Horse. Chicle is the sire
of Chicaro, a famous sire of Quarter Horses. Among the get of Chicaro is Chicaro Bill, an important Quarter Horse sire with mares like Chicado V, the dam of Triple Chick, Three Chicks and The Ole Man. Enquirer is the sire of Faustus, who sired Bonnie Joe, the grandsire of Joe Reed P-3 and the broodmare sire of Oklahoma Star P-6. Enquirer sired Mannie Gray, the dam of Domino, a source of speed found in the pedigree of such greats as Three Bars, Top Deck, Depth Charge and Leo.
In 2010, Scat Daddy sired Quarter
Horse runner Scatmandu when he was
bred to the Quarter Horse mare Fodice.
The next year, Fodice produced a full
sister to Scatmandu in Scat Moma, who
was unraced. Scatmandu was a stakes-
placed runner with earnings of $268,256.
He was second in the 2013 Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1 and third in the 2014 Los Alamitos Championship Challenge-G3 and was a finalist in four Grade 1 races, the 2014 Winter Championship-G1, 2012 Rainbow Futurity-G1, the 2013 Southern California Derby-G1 and the 2013 Rainbow Derby-G1. The late Robert Gentry was the breeder of these two Scat Daddy Quarter Horse foals.
The AQHA also lists seven Scat Daddy Thoroughbred foals in their registry. This includes three to officially race and earn an AQHA Register Of Merit. They are Daddy’s Song, with one start going unplaced earning an 80 speed index; Oh Daddy Oh, with a win in six starts earning a 106 speed index, and Ima Dingdong Dadd, with a second
Justify went 4-wide to win the $1,500,000 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the
Triple Crown, at Pimlico Race Course on May 19.
Mr. Prospector became a leading sire
that topped the general sire list for money earned in 1987 and 1988. He sired foals
with earnings of $98,010,963 with 182 stakes winners. His runners include these successful sires: Belmont Stakes-G1 winner Conquistador Cielo, Dwyer Stakes-G1 winner Gone West, Travers Stakes-G1 winner Forty Niner, and Metropolitan Handicap-G1 winner Fappiano.
Mr. Prospector is by Raise A Native by Native Dancer. The dam of Mr. Prospector is Gold Digger by Nashua by Nasrullah. When we look at the pedigree of Scat Daddy, we see that he has a breeding pattern of 4x2 to Mr. Prospector. As we look at the pedigree
of Justify and some of the other foals sired
by Scat Daddy, we will find this is a pretty common linebreeding pattern for the Scat Daddy foals.
Likeable Style is the dam of Love Style, the dam of Scat Daddy, and she is a 4-time stakes winner including the Las Virgenes Stakes-G1, the Honeymoon Handicap-G3 and the Senorita Breeders’ Cup Stakes-G3. She earned $322,326 on the track and is the dam of Grat, winner of the Glendale Handicap, and Special Times, third in the Sham Stakes.
Likeable Style is by Nijinsky by Northern Dancer, the 1970 English Triple Crown winner of the 2000 Guineas, the Derby
at Epsom and the St. Leger. The dam of Nijinsky is Flaming Page by Bull Page.
Personable Lady, the dam of Likeable Style, is a two-time stakes winner including the Centinela Stakes with earnings of $227,971. Personable Lady is the dam of stakes placed runner West Coast Warrior,
a winner of $336,812. He is stakes placed
in races like the San Carlos Handicap. Personable Lady is by No Robbery by Swaps, and she is out of Porthole by Gallant Man.
Scat Daddy didn’t win the Kentucky Derby, but he went to stud with high hopes as a sire, and he didn’t lose that race. He was the 2011 leading freshman sire with earnings of over $1.5 million. His foals today have earned over $67 million. Some examples of his big money earners include Handsome Mike ($1,005,134), Lady Of Shamrock ($950,400), Daddy Nose Best ($957,303), No Nay Never ($677,999), Solaria ($234,500), Seahenge ($228,295), Mendelssohn (£1,498,370), Flameaway ($714,834) and Combatant ($391,520).
When we look at these runners, we find linebreeding to Mr. Prospector. Handsome
