WIRED RED HEAD

Taylor VanBebber, John Herrick, and Connie Young’s homebred Wired Red Head recorded the initial stakes win of her career with a front-running victory in the $55,927 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity-G1 at Will Rogers Downs on Nov. 14. The victory provided co-owner VanBebber, the daughter of Janet VanBebber of the AQHA, with her first career stakes win as an owner.
Ridden by L. Sal Martinez, Wired Red Head broke from the gate in mid-pack in the 400-yard fixture, but quickly found the front of the field. She took command by the first call and fended off all challengers through the lane. After leading by as much as a half-length, Wired Red Head prevailed by a neck at the finish, reaching the wire just ahead of fastest qualifier JS Apollitical Chick, to secure the $21,253 winner’s share of the purse. Wired Red Head, the fourth-fastest qualifier for the main event, covered the distance in :20.169, earning a speed index of 87.
Wired Red Head, under jockey Sal Martinez, wins the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity-G1.
