The Grand Legend pushed his career bankroll to
the cusp of the quarter-million milestone with a commanding victory in the $50,000 Let ‘Er Rip Lip Chip Stakes on Nov. 25 at Lone Star Park. Owned by James
C. Whitener, LLC, The Grand Legend scored his 5th win of the year and his 3rd straight victory in stakes company. Prior stakes successes in the streak included the Lone Star Distance Challenge Stakes-G3 and AQHA Distance Challenge Championship-G1. The $28,800 payday from this event improved the gelding’s total earnings to $245,678. Oddsmakers tabbed the gelding as the overwhelming post-time favorite at 3-5 odds and he lived up to those expectations. Making his 33rd career start, the seven-year- old gelding broke on top from the No. 4 hole and never looked back, leading by three-quarters going into the stretch and exploding from any would-be rivals during the final yards to win by 3 3/4-lengths.
Adan Guzman trains The Grand Legend, who covered the 870 yards in :45.434 for a 99 speed index. Noe Villatoro, The Grand Legend’s regular jockey, had the riding assignment. Also triumphing in the 2018 running of the Heritage Place Juvenile, The Grand Legend had not returned to the winner’s circle in a stakes race until this year. He now holds 11 victories in 33 lifetime starts.
Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC, bred The Grand Legend out of Legendary Seis, a lightly-raced 2007 mare. Daycruiser (Favorite Cartel-Sereni Tea Rose) finished
second for Joe Johnson. The James Gonzales III trainee had Bobby Dow aboard. Gonzales also trains third-place Volcoms Favorite (Jess Good Candy-Volcoms Delight), who is owned by Nove Racing, LLC. Volcoms Favorite had Gerardo Vera in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was O Donovan Rossa (Apollitical Jess-Shanachee), Hi High Hopes (Favorite Cartel-Brighterthanthesun), One Fast Cajun (Heza Fast Cash-Cajun Rocket TB), and Princess Classic (Wonder Boy Perry-Killistos Classic TB). Flyin Rusty was scratched.

Thirteen was the lucky number for One Famous Lil Lady. The four-year-old filly recorded her first stakes victory in her 13th career out, taking the Yellow Rose of Texas Stakes on Nov. 25 at Lone Star Park. Ridden by Ali Rivera, One Famous Lil Lady broke on top emerging from the No. 2 gate and led by a head at every remaining call. Her 400-yard trip took :19.588 and registered a 98 speed index on a sloppy but sealed track.
Pete Scarmardo home-bred One Famous Lil Lady, a John Stinebaugh trainee who now has four total victories and improved her 2023 record to 2-1-1 in five starts. The filly has raced exclusively in her home state of Texas thus far this year. The $33,630 payday from this race improved her overall earnings to $98,256. Scarmardo bred One Famous Lil Lady out of Lady Lilia, a 2009 mare who posted one win in 10 starts running in allowance and maiden races.
Vytaliti (Mr Jess Perry-Zenergy) beat post-
time favorite Painted Seis (Tres Seis-Jakes Painted Wagon) by a neck for second place. Victor Diaz owns Vytaliti, a James Gonzales III trainee who had Francisco Calderon aboard. The sorrel filly won
the AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship-G1 at Lone Star on Oct. 21. Painted Seis finished third by daylight. The filly is owned by Danny Joe Miller, trained by Toby Keeton, and had Bryan Candanosa aboard. Painted Seis earned her first stakes win on Sept. 3 in the All American Oaks Invitational.
You Look Famous (One Famous Eagle-Mi Angela), Moonin My Memories (Moonin The Eagle-Good Ole Memories), Lipstick Promise (A Revenant-A Passionate Lady), CMC This Chick Rocks (Rock Solid Jess-Country Mans Chick), Five Bar Willie (Five Bar Cartel-Take the Cash Willie), and Razimitaz (Duponte-Fast N Fancy) completed the order of finish.

Under jockey L. Martinez the gelding vied, and completed the 400 yards on a fast track in a time of :19.699 and earned a 95 speed index.

Hold My Beer is currently on a winning streak, having won all 3 of his outs this season. The gelding broke his maiden at Will Rogers Downs and won the Don Drake Paint & Appaloosa Memorial-G2 on Nov. 12.

Over The Shock APHA (CRM Livewire-Dont Look Ethel QH) and jockey Francisco Calderon took the early lead but could not hold on. The gelding is owned by Robin Haggard and trained by Matt Whitekiller.
Race favorite RP Reckless Wire APHA (CRM Livewire-RP Miss Reckess Dash QH) and jockey Cody Wainscott consistently held third.
