Jess Have One More gave a spectacular wire-to- wire performance to take home the money in
the $50,000 New Mexico Classic Juvenile Stakes at Zia Park on Nov. 26. After a good start for all, the gelding used the tail wind to his advantage and flew down the 350 yards on a fast track. Under jockey Luis Martinez, the race favorite finished by a head and completed the field in a time of :17.150, and was awarded a 109 speed index.
The Jesus Rondan Jr. trainee brought in the $30,000 winner’s share for owner CHR Racing. Jess Have One More holds a total earnings of $130,916 after finishing in the money 8 of 10 career starts. He placed third in the New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG3 at SunRay Park on May 20.

HOLD MY BEER
by John Moorehouse
Hold My Beer APHA proved to be the toast of the field in the Don Drake Paint & Appaloosa Memorial-G3, winning the $15,752 stakes on
Nov. 12 at Will Rogers Downs. The three-year-
old gelding reached the winner’s circle for the 2nd time in 10 career starts, with both of those victories coming this year. This marked his first triumph in stakes company.
Hold My Beer broke out from the No. 2 gate and got jostled at the start, but jockey Gonzalo Gutierriez kept the gelding on course.
Hold My Beer led by a head going into the stretch then drew clear of any rivals, winning the race by a 2-length margin.
De Rae Racing, LLC home-bred Hold My Beer, who improved his lifetime bankroll to $48,160
with the $9,480 winner’s share of the purse. Matt Whitekiller trains the gelding, who covered the 350 yards in :17.890 for an 89 speed index. There was an 8 mph crosswind present.
De Rae Racing, LLC also owns and bred Irish Vendetta QH, the dam of Hold My Beer and a lightly-raced 2015 mare. Foaled in Oklahoma, Hold My Beer went winless in five starts as a two-year-old, then scored his first career victory in September in a 350-yard maiden at this same track.
WL You Aint No Cowboy APHA (Painted Turnpike-Texas Fourwinds) finished second for Wade and Susan Leggett. The Noe Rios trainee had Cody Wainscott in the irons.
Zbars Livewire FS APHA (CRM Livewire-Zbar Miss Bully QH), the post-time favorite, finished third after getting bumped at the start. Fred Ballard is the owner, Kasey Willis is the trainer, and Eugenio Navarrete, Jr., had the riding assignment.
Salt Wire APHA (CRM Livewire-Fantastic Follies QH) and Marfil ApHC (Ivory King-Panda Doll) rounded out the order of finish.
JC BLACK MAMBA
by John Moorehouse
Make it three wins in a row for JC Black Mamba, who extended her streak of successes at the front of a blanket finish in the $95,576 OQHRA
Mystery Derby on Nov. 19 at Will Rogers Downs. A Waylan Melton trainee, JC Black Mamba entered this stakes after topping the qualifying
ladder, covering the 350 yards in :17.601, and as the post-time favorite at 6-5 odds. The filly proved a tad quicker in the stakes final, finishing in :17.518 for a 101 speed index. A 17 mph tailwind provided a boost. A strong late run propelled JC Black Mamba to the front in this one. The filly broke from the No. 8 gate underneath Bryan Canadanosa and was running third both at the first call and going into the stretch, then surged into the lead, reaching the wire first by a neck.
Jose Cervantes, Jr. owns JC Black Mamba and collected a $38,731 payday from his filly’s first career stakes victory, improving her total bankroll to $117,393. The filly placed second in the Speedhorse Derby earlier this year.
