aneck loss in the All Canadian Derby is the only thing that kept Zoomin After Six from taking a five-race winning streak into the Sept. 25 Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs. The gelding wasted no time getting back into the winner’s circle, as he captured the Derby by a neck over favored Wranglin Gump.
With regular rider Helen Vanek in the irons, second-choice Zoomin After Six broke on top and never let anyone
head him throughout the
400 yards. Midway into the
race, he accelerated away
from the field, with only
Wranglin Gump sticking
with him. The favorite could
never catch Zoomin After
Six, who won by a neck in
:19.950. Wranglin Gump had

owner-breeder Steve Hunter. The gelding
has made 12 of his 13 lifetime starts at Ajax and has never finished worse than third. At
2 last year, Zoomin After Six won the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity and finished second in the Ontario Jackpot Futurity, his only start at Fort Erie. Earlier this year, he captured the Maple Leaf Derby as the first of his four con- secutive victories before his second in the All
Canadian. He has now earned $247,815 in his career.
Hunter bred Zoomin After Six in Ontario by cross- ing his winning homebred mare Silk At Six with Retama Park Futurity-G1 winner Zoomin For Bux. Hunter also raced the second dam, winner Silk Or Cash. Zoomin After Six is Silk At Six’s first winner from two starters.
Lisa Kalvoda’s home- bred Wranglin Gump (Eye
Dash-Wranglin Reba) is another consistent Ajax performer. Brian Bell piloted the geld- ing for trainer Don Reid and had won four earlier races on him. Vanek was aboard when Wranglin Gump won the Ontario Sires Derby.
Pegasos One Underpar (Down Home Dash-Pegasos Easy Seven) won two of five pre- vious starts, all at Ajax, and was fourth in the Ontario Sire Stakes Derby. Scott Reid trains the gelding for owner-breeder Chillvally Farm, and Jeff MacLaren rode him in the Derby.
Completing the field in the Ontario Bred Derby were FF Chick Magnet (Chicks Regard- Rippin Dash), Our General Grant (Royal Shake Em-Miami Movin), Star Fire Seis (Star Fire Dash-Milagro Seis), Hurricane Alexandra (Sugarman Perry-Hurricane Caleigh), and Misseditbyonehour (Fastazyoufly-Honky Tonk Shake).

Not Looking To Shake paid his dues in allowance company for some time. When he did move up to stakes company, the gelding
faced a tough bunch in the Sept. 25 Ontario Bred Maturity at Ajax Downs. Bettors sent him off as the third choice behind AQHA Canadian Champion One Kool Wave, winner of the 2010 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity and All Canadian Derby, and 2010 Ontario Jackpot Futurity winner Jog
My Memory. Not Looking To Shake rewarded his back- ers with a head victory.
Helen Vanek had ridden Not Looking To Shake and Jog My Memory in their recent starts, and in the Maturity she swung aboard Jog My Memory, leaving Not Looking To Shake to Daniel Rose. Rose broke Not Looking To Shake on top. They were in a little tight
for the first couple of strides, but then the 4-year-old gelding strived determinedly for the wire. Vanek and Jog My Memory closed near the finish, but Not Looking To Shake held them off in :19.970 for the 400 yards.
Earlier this year at Ajax, Not Looking To Shake won three consecutive allowance races for owner-breeder Christine Tavares and trainer Joe Tavares. With the Maturity,
his first stakes victory, Not Looking To Shake captured his sixth of 16 starts and increased his career bankroll to $89,786.
Christine Tavares bred Not Looking To Shake from winner Honky Tonk Shake, who earned $24,026 and also raced in Tavares’ colors. The mare has produced two win- ners from three starters.
Joyce and Erik Lehtinen’s homebred Jog My Memory
(Jody O Toole-Is It Memorex) came into the Maturity off an allowance victory. The 4-year- old gelding also finished second in the 2010 Picov Futurity to One Kool Wave.
Scott Sterr piloted Andaley Okey (Andalay Get-Okey Dokey Yawl) to third. Ralph Pearson bred and trains the 5-year-old mare, and he owns her in partnership with the Ajax Old Boys. Andaley Okey had won six of 32 races prior to the Maturity, her most recent victory coming in allowance company at Ajax.
Rising Up The Charts (Black Moons Arising-Shake The Chart) and Get A
Secret (Get Down Perry-Dollish) dead- heated for fourth, followed by One Kool Wave (Wave Carver-One Kool Bud) and Sugarnspicenotsonice (Sugarman Perry- Hurricane Caleigh) to round out the field in the Ontario Bred Maturity.
