Bad racing luck has cost Runaway Argus sev- eral victories, and he has come heartbreak- ingly close in a number of stakes. Everything
finally gelled in the Sept. 29 Lorelei Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G3, and the Paint brought home his first stakes victory.
Runaway Argus broke cleanly in the 400- yard Lorelei, avoiding some of the stumbling and bumping that he has had to endure in previous races. Jockey Jeremy
Garcia urged him forward
from third, and Runaway
Argus raced gamely in the
final strides to make up
ground and win by three-
quarters of a length in :19.574.
Brian Muse trains Runaway Argus for the Runaway Argus Partnership. The gelding in 2011 finished second in the Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity-G1 and third in the Tulsa State Fair Stakes-G2.
This year he ran second in the PSBA American Paint Classic Derby-RG1 to World Champion Paint Flashthechicks, one of his Lorelei foes.
Bred by James Skimbo, Runaway Argus
is out of the winning Paint mare Giddy Up and by the double-registered stallion SF Royal Quick Flash. All of the mare’s seven starters have won. The second dam, the Quarter Horse mare Shez A Bum, has produced stakes-placed
Destin Hurricane and is a full sister to Oklahoma Derby-G3 winner Zevis Bum.
Dan Jones’ homebred CRM Livewire APHA (Cartel Success-Elaina Go Go) ran second as the favorite for jockey Cody Smith and trainer Matt Whitekiller. Champion at 2 last year
when he placed in two stakes, CRM Livewire won this year’s Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G1.
Flashthechicks (SF Royal Quick Flash- Game Chicken) in finishing third under G.R. Carter Jr. raised his lifetime earnings to $252,088, ranking him fourth on the all- time list of Paint money earners. In addition to his PSBA Derby, Flashthechicks also won this year’s Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Derby. Luis Villafranco trains him for owner- breeder Shirley Wheeler.
Rounding out the field were KC Fabulous Flash APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Fabulous Strawbaby), Spotless Redneck APHA (Judys Lineage-Shero), Crazy Mother Trucker APHA (Sweet First Down-Texas Fourwinds), Two Timin Trixie APHA (Dos Poruno- Domestic Distrubance), SW Eye Candy APHA (Country Chicks Man-Ms Painted Eyeopener), and BP Cartels Paint APHA (Cartel Success-Baileys N Sunsets).

Imachickenkicker brought illustrious bloodlines with her when she began racing, being a half-sister to Paint World Champion
Flashthechicks. She is quickly overcoming “little sister” status with credentials of her own, coming away with a victory in the Sept. 29 Pot O Gold Paint Futurity-G1 at Will Rogers Downs.
At the start of the 400-yard Pot O Gold, Imachickenkicker popped
out of the gate in good
order under jockey Cody
Jensen while LD Flashback stumbled badly and got away last. Imachickenkicker raced stride for stride with Lajollas Mr Big Stuff. In the final yards, Imachickenkicker pulled away from Lajollas Mr Big Stuff to win by a half- length in :19.691.
Luis Villafranco trains Imachickenkicker and
Flashthechicks for owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler. Flashthechicks competed in the Lorelei Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G3 one race before the Pot O Gold, finishing third. Imachickenkicker’s previous best races were a trial victory at Remington Park and a third in the Tulsa State Fair Stakes-G2.
Wheeler and her husband, Jim, have owned Imachickenkicker’s female family back to the
fourth dam, Emma W-TB. The third dam, Kita Wheeler, is a Quarter Horse, while
the first two dams, Game Chicken and Kickin Chicken, are Paints. Imachickenkicker and Flashthechicks are Game Chicken’s only two starters. Kickin Chicken has also pro- duced Paint Champion Eye Opening Chick and stakes winner Kickin Texas.
Lajollas Mr Big Stuff (SF Royal Quick Flash-McM
Evelyn Lajolla) races for his breeder, Jane Cullum. G.R. Carter Jr. piloted the gelding for trainer Dee Keener. Lajollas Mr Big Stuff won the Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity-G1.
Awesome Tricketta (Awesome Chrome- Rebas Daughter) finished third with Debbie Freeman in the irons. Leland Parnell trains
the filly and co-owns her with breeder Kay Churchwell. Awesome Tricketta finished fourth in the American Paint Classic Futurity-G1.
Rounding out the field were Major Mac (Judys Lineage-Peggys Bouquet), Personal Ensign (Country Quick Dash-Miss Murray), A Little Lovin (Country Quick Dash-Miss Super Dee), Bells Country (Country Quick Dash-Bells Special), Awesome Mistres (Awesome Chrome- Sheza Fast Mistres), Getta Dos Of This (Dos Poruno-Royal Sooner Chick), and LD Flashback (SF Royal Quick Flash-Invisible Joene).
