 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity
ColoR STone
by Tracy Gantz
Bred in Oklahoma, Color Stone didn’t care much for his home state’s racetracks. Though he failed to win at three Oklahoma
venues, when sent to Florida, the colt thrived. He won both of his starts at Hialeah and became a stakes winner in the Dec. 30 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity.
Color Stone broke on top in the Futurity final and briefly dropped to
second, but jockey Victor
Olivo quickly rectified
any disadvantage. They immediately engaged Hatch A Plan, who had bulleted to the lead from the rail. Color Stone sailed on by for a 1 1/2-length win in :17.725 for the 350 yards.
Hafner Grain and Livestock Inc. bred Color Stone, and the colt made his first five starts for owner Julio Almanza-Rascon. Anibal
Hernandez acquired Color Stone before he began racing at Hialeah. The combination of Hernandez, Olivo, and trainer Manuel Mata have been perfect so far. Color Stone won his FQHRA Futurity trial as the fourth-fastest qualifier and then captured the final.
Unraced Hot Colours has produced Color Stone and four other winners from six starters.
Color Stone’s full brother, Chiseled In Stone, finished fourth in the 2009 Oklahoma Derby Challenge-G3. Color Tip is a full sister to stakes- placed Tax Trip, and the second dam, Tax Tip, is a full sister to Paul Travis Stakes winner Fols Jet and a half- sister to Lone Star Futurity winner Tiny Sensational.
Gary Boag rode Hatch
A Plan (Identity Theft-Miss Hatch-TB) to second for owner Teddy Abrams Jr. and
trainer Donnie Strickland. Hatch A Plan fin- ished third in a maiden race at Delta Downs and third in her FQHRA Futurity trial.
Nancy McCoy’s homebred Mr Corona Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Corona With Ice) finished third, a nose behind Hatch A Plan. Mr Corona Blue won the Sept. 3 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge and finished second, defeating Hatch A Plan, in his FQHRA Futurity trial.
Completing the field were Upgraded (Hotdoggin-Let Me Upgrade), Bet To Gamble (Bettin The Red-Wings Now Dashin), TTT Shakem Lajolla (Royal Shake Em-Our Lady La Jolla), Whos Joe Papa (Pappa Larry-Eyes Like Rapid), Mr Kentrell (Bigtime Favorite- Miss Rock A Bye), and Come On Yall (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Miss Chic Lil Sheik). Miss Blue Two was scratched.

 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby
TAKin QuiCK CASH
by Tracy Gantz
Takin Quick Cash stepped out of the claiming ranks with a vengeance when he tackled the Dec. 30 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby. In for $10,000 several times with no takers, Takin Quick Cash collected $22,730 in winning the Derby at Hialeah.
Stole N Loot, the 2-1 favorite, was squeezed back at the start of the 400-yard Derby. Though jockey Aron Hunt tried to find room between horses to return to contention,
Stole N Loot could never make
headway and finished fifth.
Meanwhile, Takin Quick Cash, under jockey Donnell Blake, veered out very slightly at the break and matched strides with Mr Speed Wrench. Oh Cooper Go rushed up to vie with the leaders, and he raced neck and neck with Takin Quick Cash, who ultimately pre- vailed by a head in :19.632.
