 Biscayne Stakes
loGAnS DASH
by John Moorehouse
logans Dash got her sophomore campaign off to a fantastic beginning, making
a furious finish to capture first place in
the $20,000 Biscayne Stakes on Jan. 8
at Hialeah Park. In the process, Anibal Hernandez’s three-year-old filly registered her third overall win in nine outs and her first victory in stakes company.
Saddled by Manuel Mata and ridden by Jeremy Garcia, Logans Dash
broke in the middle of the
pack, emerging from the nine
gate running fifth. Rare Ivory Note appeared to have the inside track on victory before beginning to fade. Meanwhile, Garcia urged another burst out of Logans Dash, who charged for the lead from the outside and got up in the final strides, beating This Panther Purrs to the finish line by a half-length margin.
Logans Dash finished the 250 yards in :13.275, bouncing back nicely from a 10th- place performance in a Dec. 30 allowance
at Hialeah in which she stumbled badly at the start. The filly’s total bankroll improved to $47,274 with the addition of the $13,575 prize for this victory.
Triple M Farms LLC bred Logans Dash and owns her dam, Logans Game, a 2004 mare and former
stakes winner herself
who took honors in the 2006 running of the Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity-RG2. Logans Dash qualified to the 2011 version of that event as a two-year-old. Logans Game has three foals, and Logans Dash is the oldest and only starter to date.
This Panther Purrs (Panther Mountain-Nora
Jane La Jolla), an 18-1 underdog, finished
a surprising second for owner Francisco Ramos. Trainer Sacremento Chavez did the prep work and jockey Adam Martinez drew the riding assignment.
Rapid Ivory (Ivory James-Rapid Fire Cash), the pre-race favorite, took third by a neck. Bobby Byrd owns the colt, trained by Ron Raper and ridden by Aron Hunt.
The remaining order of finish was Ivory Rain (Ivory James-Drifting Shawne Bug), Rare Ivory Note (Ivory James-Lady Rare Note), Special Awards (Winning Awards-Special Ignition), Theangelshavespoken (Furyofthewind- Teenish), Mukewater Creek (Fly Jess Fly-Thisdimplesaniopener) and Oceans Potion (Ocean Runaway-Streakin Ms Jess). Jazzoomba was scratched.

 Beautiful Prairie Stakes
WilD n WiCKeD jD
by Tracy Gantz
no horse has outfinished Wild N Wicked JD since owner Mary Passmore and trainer Jackie Kirby claimed him for $5,000.
His connections jumped him into stakes competition for the Jan. 1 Beautiful Prairie Stakes at Hialeah, and he responded with another victory.
The morning of the Beautiful Prairie, jockey William Ives announced that he was retiring from the saddle.
Wild N Wicked JD was his
final mount, and he made it
count. The jockey urged the
gelding forward to challenge
leader Kathryns Cartel,
and they nailed the victory
right at the wire by a head in
:13.106 for the 250 yards.
Ives had partnered Wild N Wicked JD in his three starts for Passmore and Kirby. They finished first in all three races, though
the gelding was disqualified from one of those victories. During the three days of
the New Year’s holiday weekend at Hialeah, Kirby and Ives collaborated for five wins, including four for Passmore. Wild N Wicked JD broke his maiden on Oct. 1 at Will Rogers Downs, and Passmore claimed him out of that race.
J.B. Misner bred Wild N Wicked JD in Missouri from winner Casha
D Dash. Wild N Wicked JD is the mare’s first foal. Terribly Wicked, the sire
of Wild N Wicked JD, has gotten stakes winners on
the racetrack as well as good barrel racers.
Kathryns Cartel (Corona Cartel-My Lady Amber) finished second after being part of an unusual triple dead heat for third in the Foxy Lady Stakes. Kirby
also trains Kathryns Cartel, who is owned
by Jovetta Meredith and Wade Helton. Francisco Ramirez Jr. piloted the mare in the Beautiful Prairie.
Tre Boss (Tres Seis-Bosanova Baby) finished third for owner Jose Ivanez, who
won the previous day’s Hialeah Derby with Tortuga Tony. Shanley Jackson rode Tre Boss for trainer Jesus Gonzalez Jr. Tre Boss finished third in the 2011 Fairmount Park Invitational.
Rounding out the field were Jacis Flashy Girl (SF Royal Quick Flash-TRM Countess Corona), Oklahoma Bandido (Take Off Jess- Pure Oklahoma), Marys Corazon (Azoom- Streakin O Toole), Go Mary Be Famous (Shazoom-Streakin O Toole), Sheza Titleist (Title Contender-Wakeup Flyin), Jessgonnafly (Fly Jess Fly-Toast To Gypsy), and Bachendorf (Ocean Runaway-Six On The Beach).
