 Harrah’s Dash
WiTHouT PRejuDiCe
by John Moorehouse
Without Prejudice needed every inch of the 250 yards in the Harrah’s Dash. He made a late surge to win the $20,000 stakes on Jan. 7 at Louisiana Downs, beating underdog Eyesa Western to the wire by a neck.
Running for owner Rafael Rodriguez Pantoja, Without Prejudice tallied his sixth overall win in 23 outs and second vic-
tory in stakes company. Shorter distances definitely are ideal for
this five-year-old gelding.
Without Prejudice fin-
ished first in last season’s
Evangeline Downs Dash,
a 220-yard event, and has
hit the board in five other
stakes—all of them 330
yards or shorter.
Without Prejudice drew the outside starting gate, and broke from the 10 hole in the middle of the pack in sixth. The gelding remained
part of the crowd as the leaders reached the stretch. However, jockey Martin Rubalcava engineered a big rally from the gelding, who made it to the finish line just up over the longshot Eyesa Western.
Prepped by trainer Eusevio Huitron, Without Prejudice covered the 250 yards in :13.197 for a 101 speed index, his third straight in triple digits. The victory also produced a
$12,000 payday that swelled the gelding’s total earnings to $68,440.
Mike and Leslie Turner bred Without Prejudice out of the 1991 mare Euphoric, whom they also own. Euphoric logged one victory in 11 outs before becoming a broodmare, and nine of her 11 foals have made starts. Without Prejudice is the only stakes winner in the brood, however.
Eyesa Western, who faced 23-1 odds at
the betting window, took second place by a half-length. Anireal Chavira owns and trains Eyesa Western (Eyesa Special-Western Debt), who had jockey Bobby Ransom in the irons. Endless Ocean (Ocean Runaway-Debs Cartel) hit the board in third. Ebelyn Rojas owns the filly, an Isidro Flores trainee who had jockey J.R. Ramirez aboard.
Rounding out the order of finish were Blue Rare Bear (One Rare Bug-Eye Shine Special), Royal Invasor (Royal Quick Dash-One Fast Kisser), Kool Country Man (Country Chicks Man-First Kool Baby), Heza Gand DS Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Mary Snow), Speeding (Shazoom-Speedy Empress), Teller More Bourbon (Teller Cartel-Bourbonstreetchick) and Charal Kid (Streakin La Jolla-The Special Feature).

 Harrah’s Distaff
SHe iS A FAST DASH
by John Moorehouse
She Is A Fast Dish entered her four-year- old campaign having never appeared in a stakes race. Now, make it one stakes event, and one stakes victory for the filly in 2012 as She Is A Fast Dash triumphed in the $20,000 Harrah’s Distaff, using a late rally to catch Bertha Venation and claim victory in the Jan. 7 competition at Louisiana Downs.
It marked the fourth win in nine outs for She Is A Fast Dash,
owned and trained by
Henry Padgett. The filly
has now posted two straight victories, also finishing first in her final out in 2011,
a 220-yard allowance at Evangeline Downs.
She Is A Fast Dash made a clean break from the nine hole on the outside of the field, but Bertha Venation grabbed the early advantage. Bertha Venation remained
in front by a half-length heading into the stretch, but She Is A Fast Dash came on strong from the outside to seize the lead and the victory.
The 350-yard trip took :17.805 for She Is A Fast Dash, who had jockey Danny Lavergne in the irons. The 101 speed index was just shy of the career-high 102 tallied in that recent allow- ance win at Evangeline Downs. She Is A Fast
Dash bolstered her lifetime bankroll to $39,811 with the addition of this $12,000 payday.
Live Oak Farms bred She Is A Fast Dash out of Style N Grace, a 2000 mare owned by the Manou Prairie Stables. All three of Style N Grace’s foals have made starts, and while all three have been to the win- ner’s circle, only She Is A Fast Dash has won a stakes race.
Bertha Venation’s
connections settled for a close second. Jose Luis Salazar owns Bertha Venation (Corona Caliente-Dash To Glory), trained by Jonathan Castaneda and ridden by David Alvarez.
XO Kate (Stoli-Streakin Kate), a two-time distaff winner, finished third by a neck for owner Noel Balderas. Trainer Isidro Flores did the prep work and Martin Rubalcava drew the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Keep The Glory (Shazoom-Miss Confident Jody), Bigmeanrunninmachine (Game Patriot-Wantsapearlnecklace), Trampstamp (Shazoom-Check The Account), Coronas Legacy (Hail Corona-WW Family Tradition), Toast To Betsy (Toast Your Dreams-Rare Roll Lady) and Pop Off Jessie (Take Off Jess-Resist All). BJS Rakin Sally was scratched.
