The $1,199,685 All American Derby-G1, Quarter Horse racing’s richest race for three year olds, will be contested on September 3. On August 13, nine trials were held to determine the 10 finalists. The trials were run under cloudy skies on a fast track with a consistent 5-12 mph head wind that lasted until the final trial when the wind stopped completely for the last race.
The qualifying list consisted of eight geldings and two colts. There were three homebreds in
the field with Sammy Valeriano’s Magnanimous V, Regina Laymon’s Hooked N Gone and Pete Scarmardo’s Hes A Jet One. Toby Keeton trained three of the qualifiers in fastest qualifier Delight Interest, second fastest qualifier Getthere Fast and Whiskey Creek, and Santos Carrizales Jr. trained two of the qualifiers in Magnanimous V and Sicario V. Francisco Calderon rode more than one qualifier with Magnanimous V and Sicario V, and Juan Pulido rode Delight Interest and Whiskey Creek. Apollitical Jess sired three qualifiers in Chasing AJ, Magnanimous and Whiskey Creek. Favorite Cartel sired two qualifiers in Cyber Attack and Sicario V.
