by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
From six qualifying trials, ten finalists for the Mexican Breeders Futurity were obtained, with nine of them returning to the scene on
Dec. 15 to decide the winner of the finals that were run at 400 yards with purse of $1,775,620 pesos ($92,227 US approximately) to be dis- tributed among the participants according to the order of arrival at the wire.
The fillies Corona Sola and Chispita Two, both from Rancho El Suspiro, held the top two fastest qualifying times and were marked favorites to win, closing with odds of 0.30. The gelding RG Onchao A King, of Rancho Las Gaviotas, was scratched from the finals.
It was a difficult race with everyone using their last drop of energy to seek victory. The filly Chispita Two (#1A, gate 10) in the final strides snatched the win from LA Whistlin Corona (#7) by difference of a head according to the finish-line photo. The race lasted 19.43 seconds, for a 97 speed index. Chispita Two was ridden by Israel Domínguez Morales, who scored the second classic of the closing day.
The filly, who was raised by Cuadra La Presita and is owned by Rancho El Suspiro, climbed positions during the season until winning this race, after placing second in the finals of the Select
Auction Futurity and entering other similar events reserved for individuals born in Mexico and presented at the Select Yearling Auction of the Hipodromo de las Américas in 2018.
With this achievement,
the daughter of Danny Cartel out of La Tonita (by Mr Eye Opener) is a strong contender for the title of Mexican Champion Two-Year-Old Filly of this season, backed by a 6-2-0 record in nine outings at the track and earnings of more than $2.2 million pesos.
This is another stakes winner trained by José Guadalupe García “Lupillo”, who is offi- cially represented by trainer Ismael Ayala Salas.

As De Bastos (Taint Your Wagon–Louisiana Dana), Hublot Cartel (Danny Cartel–Bauty Fire), Sea Mighty (Sea Horse Corona–Mighty Zoom) and BR Centauro Del Sur (Southern Corona–Stage Gulch).
