Jesus “Nuchi” Jiménez Sánchez Classic
MAS BUENA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The classic in honor of Don Jesús “Nuchi” Jiménez Sánchez, breeder of renowned Quarter Horses in the State of Sinaloa, was held on Nov. 24, 2019, with six two-year-old runners that had not won a race at the time
of being nominated. The purse was $217,000 pesos (approx. $11,100 US), rewarding first to fourth place at the end of 300 yards.
After having finished second in The Prize Classic, the sorrel filly Mas Buena (#3) was a wide favorite in the betting preferences and she delivered. Ridden by José Ángel Ambrosio Medina, she traveled safely and freely through the center of the sandy track, crossing the finish line with 2 1/4-lengths over Successful Flight (#6) in second. The timer was stopped at :15.14 (SI 95). It was the best Mas Buena has recorded in her career, which consists of only three races with a 1-1-1 record and total earn- ings of $266,055 pesos.
Owned by Cuadra El Cuartel, the filly is trained by José Luis Tavizón Barraza, who led her into the winner’s circle to receive their awards from Jesús Jiménez on behalf of his father.
Mas Buena is by Stel Corona and out of Plenty Good, by Separatist, and was bred in the United States by John Firth. The filly was
auctioned for $12,000 at the 2018 Los Alamitos Equine Sale (Lot 304), where she was purchased by Rachuán Suárez (MVZ), later becom- ing the property of Cuadra El Cuartel.
Given the performance
she has shown, the best for
this graceful runner should
come in the 2020 season. In
2019, she won her maiden
and with it her first classic
with promising results for her future.
The filly Sucessful Flight (Cartel Success- Copafly) took second place under Alejandro Gómez Díaz for Cuadra Santa Elena and trainer Liderme René Gómez.
In third crossed the grey colt Dashintogetcha (Dashin Bye–Coronas Concierge) led by Heriberto Camacho Sotelo. He belongs to Rancho El Surikato and is trained by Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez.
The other participants finished in the fol- lowing order: Saratoga Sage (Wagon Tales–The Princess Buds), VF Brave Heart (Dominyun– Brava Brava) and Dark Apache Dash (First Down Dash–Apache Heart).
