Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1
ZOOMIN EFFORTLESSLY
by John Moorehouse
The wins, and the winnings, keep piling up for Zoomin Effortlessly. The six-year- old gelding notched his ninth career stakes victory, outdueling 2016 AQHA World Champion Jessies First Down on June 3 in the $250,252 Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1.
Owned by Telesforo Perrett, Zoomin Effortlessly now has 16 wins in 27 total starts, and the $150,000 payday from his latest stakes victory has pushed his total earnings to a whopping $839,567.
The gelding has also positioned himself
for another big-money race, as this tri-
umph qualifies him for the Champion of Champions, which will be run at Los Alamitos in December.
All seven participants in this year’s Remington Park Invitational Championship had to answer a more stringent protocol just to be eligible. Zoomin Effortlessly met those criteria and, when it came time to run, made a strong drive for the wire.
The gelding broke well from the 2 gate and moved into a close second behind Jessies First Down. That duo established themselves as the class of the field going into the stretch, where Zoomin Effortlessly proved to be the best by just a head.
Trained by Edelmiro Carrizales, Zoomin Effortlessly covered the 440 yards in :21.105, logging a 104 speed index that marked his fifth in triple figures. Santos Carrizales was aboard for this trip.
Zoomin Effortlessly and
Jessies First Down have been
in a stirring rivalry the last
few years. Jessies First Down
got the better of their meet-
ings in a pair of Grade 1 races with six-figure purses near the end of 2016—the Zia Park Handicap and the Sunland Park Championship. Overall, Jessies First Down entered this event riding a five-race winning streak.
Zoomin Effortlessly also finished first
in last year’s running of the Remington Invitational Championship, but was disquali- fied. Of his nine total stakes wins, eight have come in restricted and/or graded events, and include the 2016 Championship at Sunland Park-G1 (which was supposed to run on
Dec. 27, 2015, but was delayed until Jan. 3, 2016 due to a severe snowstorm), 2016 All American Gold Cup-G1, 2015 Refrigerator Handicap-G1, 2016 Leo Stakes-G1, 2016
Downs at Albuquerque Fall Championship, 2015 Live Oak Handicap, and the 2015 TQHA Sires’ Cup Stakes.
Zoomin Effortlessly was named an AQHA Supreme Race Horse and Superior Race Horse in 2016 and in 2015 set a 400-yard New Track Recort at Retama Park. He also was the 2014 Texas Hi-Point Claiming Horse.
Tommy Charbula bred Zoomin Effortlessly out of Royal Quick Affair,
a lightly-raced 2005 mare owned by Pamela Stone who has produced four foals, two of whom have made starts.
The duo of Zoomin Effortlessly and Jessies First Down (FDD Dynasty-Jess A Classy Lassy) fin- ished 1 1⁄2 lengths ahead of 3rd-place AJs High. Ted Abrams owns Jessies First Down, who is trained
by Judd Kearl & had jockey Rodrigo Vallejo aboard. Michael Teel owns AJs High (Apollitical Jess-Regally Rare), a Charley Hunt trainee who was ridden by Stormy Smith. Followed by Big Lew (Corona Cartel-Executive Looks), VF Red Surprise (First Prize Stanley-Red Temptress), Rockin Disco (Rock Solid Jess-Check This Disco) & Stevie B First Cash (First Down Cash-Spit Curl Diva).
