Covered Bridges Stakes-G3

by John Moorehouse
If a sophomore slump exists, Call Her Hero has never heard of it. Call Her Hero contin- ued the unbeaten march through her 3-year-
old campaign, edging Gunpowder Kid at the wire on Oct. 6 to win the $29,932 Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 at Prairie Meadows.
After going winless in five outs as a 2-year- old, Call Her Hero has flipped that script in 2012. This victory gave her a 4-0 record this season, with two of those wins
coming in stakes company.
She previously won the
Red Cell Prairie Meadows
Distance Challenge-G3.
The difference for Horton Racing LLC’s homebred filly has been running at longer distances. Each of her four wins thus far in 2012 have come at 870 yards.
It took all 870 yards for Call Her Hero to get to the front in the Covered Bridges.
Gunpowder Kid broke on top and promptly opened up a daylight lead over Call Her Hero. Gunpowder Kid continued to widen the gap, leading by as many as three lengths down the stretch. However, Call Her Hero’s rider Stormy Smith had the filly closing fast, and she edged Gunpowder Kid to reach the finish line first by a neck.
Prepped by Charlton Hunt, Call Her Hero finished the race in :46.162,
registering a 90 speed
index. The filly brought home a $15,989 payday that increased her total earn- ings to $44,400. More than $40,000 of that sum has been accumulated during this undefeated season. That bankroll could see a major addition at the end
of October. Call Her Hero is slated to compete in the $125,000 Red Cell Distance
Challenge Championship-G1 at Oct. 27 on Prairie Meadows, held as part of the Bank of America Challenge Championships card.
Gunpowder Kid (Kool Quick Kid-Rushin Bullette) finished a close second for owner Dennis Sonberg. The winner of last year’s
Iowa Stallion Derby is trained by Brent Clay and had jockey Berkley Packer in the irons. Doyles Dashing Star (Heza Fast Dash-Georgia Wildcat) hit the board third in her debut out in the state of Iowa for Rachael Stephens, Lessee. Doyles Dashing Star is trained by Gene Stephens and jockey Agustin Silva drew the riding assignment.
Yin Your Eyes (Eye Yin You-Apollo Snowbound), Jess Another Reb (Jess Louisiana Blue-Stunning Rockette) and First Down Man (First Down Dash-My Ladys Alibi) rounded out the order of finish.

Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3
SR RoDe tAH GloRy
by Tracy Gantz
Jockey Teagan Oulton and SR Rode Tah Glory make a good pair. Oulton has ridden the 2-year-old filly in each of her five starts, and they have won four times. SR Rode Tah Glory became a stakes winner in the Oct. 14 Alberta Bred Futurity at Whoop Up Downs in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Though SR Rode Tah Glory qualified the fastest in winning her trial by three-quarters of a length, she went off as
the third choice. Bettors
decided upon stakes-winning
KR Working Man as the 3-2
favorite, with Kool Shazoom
the second choice.
Those three made a race of it, Kool Shazoom getting the jump at the start and vying with Julia Meyer. KR Working Man ranged up
to grab the lead late in the race, but SR Rode Tah Glory finished best of all. From
the outside post, she nailed KR Working Man right on the wire to win by a neck in :17.760 for 350 yards. SR Rode Tah Glory earned $31,851 for the win.
Allen Goodsell trains SR Rode Tah Glory for owner Mark Cassel. She debuted at Whoop Up Downs in June, winning a 220-yard race by a nose. The circuit moved to Evergreen Park, where she won her trial for the John
Deere Evergreen Juvenile Challenge and dead-heated for third in the final, her only career loss.
Ed and Mary Kyler
bred SR Rode Tah Glory
in Alberta, Canada, from unraced Streakin La Jolla mare KR Mia La Jolla. SR Rode Tah Glory is the mare’s first starter. The second dam, winner Little Orphan Glory, produced stakes winners KR Streakin Who, KR Montana
Cartel, and KR American Girl.
Juan Garcia piloted KR Working Man
(Captain Courage-KR Ladyhawk) to second for trainer Laurie Ferguson and owners Phil Dennis and Naia and Jeremy Giambi. KR Working Man won the Bonnett/Broden Futurity and finished third in the Canada Cup Futurity-RG3.
Ferguson also trains third-place Kool Shazoom (First N Kool-Paulina Bug), the winner of the Canada Cup Futurity. Logun Gotham rode the filly for owner Shaun Jeffrey.
Completing the field in the Alberta Bred Futurity were Julia Meyer (Mac Meyers-Mea Be Fit To Fly), Petes Fate (Quest Of Fate TB-Bring The Roses), Talented Dasher (Prime Talent-Sistersdash), Jess Cash N In (Crimson Jess-Mity Easy Cash), and Miss Baileyscomet (Birdzilla TB-A Judge).
