with people from the Intermountain and Northwest regions of the U.S. in town for the Los Alamitos Equine Sale and the Oct. 5 Kip Didericksen Handicap restricted to horses from that area, it could have been a night at Les Bois Park
in Boise, Idaho. Instead, it took place in Southern California at Los Alamitos.
Mark Skeen hails from St. George, Utah, and he is training Didericksen winner Fols Jesse at Los Alamitos for owner-breeder Mesa Valley Farms LLC. In three starts, the 3-year-old gelding has won twice and fin- ished third in the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap.
In the Didericksen, Fols Jesse went off as the 9-10 favorite under Joel Cruz, who rode him twice at Les Bois before traveling to Los Alamitos. Fols Jesse broke almost evenly with Whata Corona Runner, but quickly took over the lead. He scooted to a half-length advan- tage, which no one could cut into. Fols Jesse won the 350-yard Didericksen by that margin in :17.482.
Fols Jesse is the first foal and first starter for his dam, winner Sheza Jet Dash. Fols Jesse was win-
ning his first stakes. He was second in the Knight Transportation Futurity and Les Bois Derby Challenge.
Bob and Scott Giltner’s homebred Vodka Soda No Fruit (Shazoom-Cash Curve) ran second with Never Marin up. Kurt Calton trains the stakes-win- ning 6-year-old gelding. Third-place Whata Corona Runner (Corona Cartel-AB What A Runner) races for breeders Dennie and Kris Hill. Gregorio Arriaga rode the stakes-placed colt for trainer Bret Vickery.
Completing the field in the Didericksen were Hezdashinginthedark (Darkelly-Sheza Dashing Angel), Cool Cash Corona (Mr Corona Cash-First N Favorite), LDS Amazing Grace (Ocean Runaway- LDS Good Goin Gracie), Playful Choices (A Regal Choice-Playful Habits), JRM Scootermegone (Heza Motor Scooter-Caits Dash), and RTM Philbin Rd (Dashair-Streakin Mirage).

Forrest Fire never backs down from a challenge. The 5-year-old gelding has competed in a host of Grade 1 races, such as the Los Alamitos Two Million
Futurity. His best effort at that level has been a third in the 2010 Los Alamitos Super Derby. Forrest Fire became a double stakes winner when he captured the Oct. 6 Whosleavingwho Handicap.
Receiving little respect, Forrest Fire went off as the longest shot at nearly 11-1. He came out well under Rodrigo Aceves, while favored Costly Man stumbled just to his outside. The two raced together for a few strides before Costly Man dropped back. Forrest Fire found himself in a four-way battle to the wire, the photo showing him the neck winner. Forrest Fire traveled the 350 yards in :17.738.
Dan Francisco trains Forrest Fire, who earlier this year won the Katella Handicap and ran second in the Kaweah Bar Stakes-G3 at Los Alamitos. Mimi Wells owns Forrest Fire and bred him in California.
Stakes winner Chicks Tell, the dam of Forrest Fire, was the James V.A. Carter Award winning broodmare in 2010. Her seven winners from 11 start- ers include stakes-placed Red Hawk Chick and Tough To Tell. Another starter, Chicks Cocktail, placed in the 2007 AQRA President’s Open Sprint Futurity-G3.
Francisco Rubio piloted Significant Cartel (Corona Cartel-Dash Master Miss) to second for owner Santos Montemayor and trainer Juan Aleman. The 4-year-old gelding won the Cypress Handicap and was third in the 2011 Golden State Derby-G1.
Cash Him Out (Separatist-Cash Her Out) ran third for jockey Ramon Sanchez. Paul Jones trains the 4-year-old gelding for Juan Humberto Moya. Earlier this year, Cash Him Out placed in the California Breeders Sprint Stakes.
Ronsepi (Separatist-Rondini), De Moss (Separatist-Classic Sassy Chic), and Costly Man (Walk Thru Fire-Costly) completed the field.
PRM Bonus Challenge
Dont look etHel
by John Moorehouse
Dont Look Ethel beat the odds on Oct. 6 at Prairie Meadows. Matt Whitekiller’s 4-year-old filly entered the $21,600 Prairie Meadows Bonus
Challenge as a 17-1 longshot, but won the stakes deci- sively by 1 1/4 lengths. Whitekiller also trains Dont Look Ethel, who logged her sixth win in 20 lifetime outs and third consecutive victory. She earned $11,880 to boost her career bankroll to $92,023.
Dont Look Ethel broke on top from the seven gate, was passed by Corona For You but then made a steady gain to get back to the front. Dont Look Ethel found another gear late in the race, widening her lead during the stretch to win by daylight. Jockey Cody Smith was aboard for the 350-yard trip, completed
in :17.621 for a 93 speed index. While this was Dont Look Ethel’s first stakes win, the filly already was stakes-placed, finishing third in the 2010 Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG3. Dont Look Ethel also has com- peted in two other graded stakes.
Prescilla Marley bred Dont Look Ethel out of Thelastdanceismine, a winner of three of 11 starts. Two of her five offspring have made outs, and Dont Look Ethel is the only winner.
Giorgino (Apollo TB-Las Alamitos) placed sec- ond for owner/breeder Jorge Haddad. Kasey Willis is the trainer and jockey Agustin Silva was in the irons. Hugo Barron Sierra’s Corona For You (Corona For Me-My First Twist) finished third. The Jose Barron trainee had Jeramie Fennell aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Believers Gathering (Agouti-None As Easy), T Gold J (Gold Medal Jess-Turns To Cash), Speed Smith (Prime Talent-Speedy Empress), Wheres Your Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Yawls Spreadn Rumors), Waving At The Chicks (Wave Carver- Bay Or Gray Chick), Valiant Fantasy (Valiant Hero- Fontanas Fantasy), Vodka With Ice (Stoli-Hips So Fine), American Spit Curl (Spit Curl Jess-American Dove) and Pow Wow Lane (Invisible Injun-Cash In This Lane).
