 Dash For Colors P&A Stakes
MuCHo SnowMAn
by Tracy Gantz
SM Country Snowman took two Paint World Championships to stud, and his first foals arrived in 2010. Mucho Snowman not only reached the finish line first in the Oct. 13 Dash For Colors Paint and Appaloosa Stakes at Will Rogers Downs, he beat the rest of SM Country Snowman’s progeny to the ranks of stakes winner, becoming the stallion’s first. Over a muddy, sealed track, Mucho Snowman quickly bounded out of the gate from post two under jockey Mario Chavez. Getta Dos Of This vied with him to the wire, but Mucho Snowman prevailed by a nose in :15.623 for the 300 yards.
Ray Enlow trains Mucho Snowman for owner Casey Humphrey, who bred the gelding in Texas. Mucho Snowman had a first, second, and third in three starts prior to the Dash For Colors. A flashy overo just like his sire, Mucho Snowman is a sorrel, whereas SM Country Snowman is a red roan. The dam, unraced Mucho Quick, is a solid sorrel, and Mucho Snowman is her first starter. The second dam, JK Mucho Treasure, finished third in the 1999 American Paint Classic Futurity and Pot O’ Gold Futurity.
Getta Dos Of This APHA (Dos Poruno-Royal Sooner Chick) had started 10 times this year before the Dash For Colors. Owned by Crazy Wenches Inc., he won a race and was third in the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Futurity-RG1. Bryan Ernst rode the colt in the Dash For Colors for trainer Dee Keener.
Racing RNs’ Panda Doll ApHC (Real Visions- Eyesa Knockout) finished third for trainer Luis Villafranco and jockey Paul Nieto. Panda Doll ran third in the National Appaloosa Stakes.
Completing the field were TJS Flashy Spot APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Treasure Jet), Awesome Chemistry APHA (Awesome Chrome- Judys Cash), T H San Man APHA (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Treasured Chick), and Cobra Cash ApHC (Dean Miracle-Joyball).
Mexican Futurity
MAGGIe MoonPIe
by Luis Prieto Zamudio • translation by Eduardo Silveyra
An ideal race was the one we saw at the 30th running of the Mexican Futurity, on Sept. 23 at 400 yards. There was no interferences or injuries, and the race was won on a fast track by Maggie Moonpie, the favorite in the betting odds.
With the scratches of Wicked Fun from Racing Block Armadillo, and Roha For Love, from Racing Block Brothers Villarreal, the group was reduced to seven participants, all of U.S. origin.
The odds reflected a preference for Maggie Moonpie and rider Eduardo Valenzuela. As the field broke from the starting gates, Pardi Gras came out of gate one and ducked in towards the inside rail, but the jockey’s reaction to correct the horse’s path condemned Pardi Gras to the rear, very distanced from the group. At the other end, from gate nine, a distracted Miss Snow Cartel lost valuable seconds to settle under the guidance of Nicolas Otamendi, but when she did settle, she looked powerful.
Maggie Moonpie made a good race from posi- tion eight, running with the field for the first half of the race, but then sprinted with all her power towards the goal and crossed the finish line first, closely followed by the grey Runaway Kisser, who came in second by a length. The winning time was :20.12, for a speed index of 83.
Maggie Moonpie is a daughter of the stallion Teller Cartel and is out of Steel Magnolias. She was bred in the United States by Stone Chase Stables LLC. Maggie Moonpie is owned by Racing Block Las Heveas and was saddled by Marco Antonio Luna Salcedo. It was her seventh race and fifth victory. In her only two defeats, she finished second and sixth. Her five wins include the Jodys Glory Classic and the AQHA John Deere Mexico Juvenile Challenge, both in 2012.
The total purse was 287,500 pesos ($21,296 U.S.), of which the winner received 60 percent.
Runaway Kisser (Ocean Runaway-One Fast Kisser), finished second, ridden by Jose Trinidad Diaz for Racing Block Victoria M.C.
Third place went to Miss Snow Cartel (Snowbound TB-Racing Cartel) of Racing Block Santa Cecilia, with rider Nicolas Otamendi.
The remaining order of finish was Parker Ty (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Royalnative Empress); Prissy Shazoom (Shazoom-Miss Rare Form); Shake Jake (Royal Shake Em-Jakes Jockmo); Pardi Grass (Bigtime Favorite-Miss Marquetry TB).
No hubo interferencias
