Patriots Glory’s owners, Richard and Genevieve Herrman, don’t have to worry about their talented gelding going into the
Bank Of America Challenge Championship finals at Prairie Meadows with any rust.
With his one-sided victory in the $60,000 Bank Of America Turf Paradise Challenge Championship on Oct. 14 at Turf Paradise, Patriots Glory became the last horse to qualify for the $350,000 Bank
Of America Challenge Championship-G1 being held 13 days later at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 27.
Patriots Glory literally ran away with things at Turf Paradise to earn his spot in Iowa. The Hipolito Michel- Valverde trainee made a sharp break from the two gate and promptly made
his way to the front of the 10-horse field. Under a hand
ride from jockey Elliot Bachicha Jr., Patriots Glory widened the gap from there, crossing the finish line 1 1/2 lengths in front.
Patriots Glory covered the 440 yards in :20.320 seconds, posting a 103 speed index that marked his highest of this year.
The Herrmans, who bred Patriots Glory, cashed a $35,231 payday that pushed the geld- ing’s lifetime bankroll to $170,164. Patriots
Glory now holds a 10-8-1 record in 26 career outs, and logged his fifth stakes win. This was the first graded stakes win for Patriots Glory, though he did finish third
in the 2010 AQHA Derby Challenge Championship-G1 at Fair Grounds.
The Herrmans also bred Daisy N Eye, the dam of Patriots Glory. The 1998 mare is stakes-placed, and has three starters among six total
offspring. Rare Pizazz, a half-sister to Patriots Glory, won the 2007 Lucille Rowe Derby-RG3
Owner/trainer Felix Gonzalez’s gelding Pot Ocash (Mr Eye Opener-Corona Cash) finished second under Gregorio Arriaga. He had won three straight outs, including a victory over Patriots Glory in the trials. What I Want (Country Chicks Man-Secret Down Dash), a 26-1 longshot, was third for Victor Ramos. The Gerardo Ochoa-Pena trainee had Jorge Bourdieu aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Whiskey (Mr Corona Cash-Been Bad N Bac), Downtown Richard (Kelowna Kash-Ky High TB), Dudek Custus (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Flaming Gorgeous TB), First Element (Volcom-As Blazin Goes), Dale Schism (Okey Dokey Dale-Parklane Chick), Im Just An Illusion (Visionarian- Californias Chick) and Queens R Blue (Shazoom-First Place Queen).

Desert Classic Derby
SeA PAntHeR Run
by Michael Compton
Sea Panther Run, the third-fastest qualifier for the Oct. 21 Desert Classic Derby at Turf Paradise, proved plenty quick when it counted most. Piloted by Jorge Bourdieu, Sea Panther Run broke sharply, vied for the early lead and edged clear late to win the 350-yard dash by a half-length in :17.828, earning a speed index
of 90 for owner Xavier Paul Cardenas. Trainer Omar Lorta saddled the winner, as well as odds-on favorite and fastest
qualifier Doinit For You who wound up fourth in the Desert Classic after dueling for the early lead with his stablemate.
Sea Panther Run broke awkwardly and finished sec- ond in his trial, recording the third-fastest time of :18.046. He rediscovered his best stride in the Desert Classic Derby after going winless in his prior three starts, which

followed back to back victories at Rillito Park to begin his 2012 campaign. Sea Panther Run has now won three of eight starts and bankrolled $17,183.
The Desert Classic was the first stakes victory for Sea Panther Run, who is produced from the Mr Jess Perry mare Yacht Sea. Winless during her racing career, Yacht Sea is the dam of one other winner, Lets Play Yacht Sea, who
finished fourth in this year’s Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity-RG2 at Delta Downs.
The 3-year-old filly Lady Left (Zoomin For Bux- Expectancy) offered a game chase approaching the line to finish second in the Desert Classic under Rodolfo Arvizu for owners Melesio Arvizu and Juan Renteria. Still a maiden after eight lifetime tries, Lady Left has hit the board in four of those starts,
including her runner-up effort as the race favorite behind Doinit For You in her trial. She is trained by Armando Castellanos.
Jocelyn Ortega and JR Livestock’s Endless Speed closed from fifth in the early stages
to cross the wire in third position under Alejandro Ortega. Trained by Monica Ortega, Endless Speed (First Wrangler-My Speed Meter) owns two wins from 11 starts and she has placed in three others.
Completing the order of finish were Doinit For You (Dashair-Donedoinit), Three Wagons (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Royal Blue Heart), Macy Bay (Strawflyin Buds-It’s a Dry Heat TB), Miss Empanada (Streakin La Jolla- Empanada), Lil Payton Manning (Hiclass La Jolla-Lil Leinster), Four O One Kaye (Royal Cartel-My Banks Been Looted) and Yaya Chick Bgone (Chicks Regard-Available Pie).
