Barrel racers and their flashy mounts converged on Fort Worth, Texas, during the 2017 APHA World Championship Show to battle it out for top titles and lucrative prize money in the Ram Trucks Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program’s (PBRIP) sweepstakes events. More than $20,000 was on tap, split between the 4D PBRIP 4- & 5-year-old futurities and the 4D PBRIP sweepstakes classes.
PRBIP 4- & 5-Year-Old Futurities: Total Payout, $5,180*
Young Paints took center stage during
the 4- & 5-year-old PBRIP Futurities.
Roxies Fame and Tara Yeager of Dublin, Texas, clocked a :16.705 to claim the 1D Championship and $2,590. Roxies Fame,
a 2012 bay overo mare by Dash Ta Fame
QH and out of SW Status Symbol, is bred and owned by Jodell Wilder of Buffalo Gap, Texas. Tara and Roxies Fame snagged the $1,000 Farnam Fast Time Bonus for the quickest trip around the barrels in the PBRIP futurity classes, all inclusive.
All-around trainer Brian Henry of Fruita, Colorado, got in on the PBRIP action aboard Mycheck A Kelley and claimed the 2D Futurity Championship, along with $1,060. Mycheck A Kelley, a 2012 bay tobiano gelding by Darkelly QH and out of Check C Tariat, is owned by Jennifer Austin-Parker of Smithfield, Utah.
Meanwhile, Streakin Yellowjacket and owner Jeff Damphouse of Mustang, Oklahoma, ran
to the 1D Solid Paint-bred Championship for a total payout of $1,530. Streakin Yellowjacket is
a 2012 palomino solid gelding by Jets Streakin and out of Oh Native Goldy QH.
PBRIP Barrel Racing Sweepstakes: Total Purse, $9,820*
Deep competition came to race in the PBRIP Barrel Racing Sweepstakes, but the new team of Casino Perks and owner Mark Bugni of Wanette, Oklahoma, clocked the top speed of :16.052 to win the 1D Championship and more than $3,300. That included a $2,000 bonus from Farnam for having the fastest overall time in the PBRIP Sweepstakes classes, all inclusive.
“I just bought him about four months ago and started working on cleaning up the pattern and getting him to fit me a little better,” Mark

said. He first saw Casino Perks run at the Barrel Futurity of America Juvenile in 2015 and had his eye on the gelding ever since. “We’re just getting things rolling for the year, and he just keeps getting better and better every run.”
Casino Perks, a 2012 black tovero gelding by Eddie Stinson QH and out of Perks Painted Lady, was bred by Linda Hafner of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The 2D Champion team was Smart With Cash and Haley Ceron of Edmond, Oklahoma. Smart With Cash, a 2009 sorrel tobiano mare by Lenas RX QH and out of Wish With Cash, was bred by Bethel Steward of Mansfield, Texas, and is currently owned by Ceron.
