Ramon Sanchez becomes the ninth jockey in the 61-year history of Los Alamitos Race Course to reach 1,500 Quarter Horse wins. Sanchez hit the 1,500 mark aboard Lookin At A Winner in the evening’s sixth race for trainer Paul Jones.

The Los Alamitos division of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America raises $30,355 during an auction held in conjunction with the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association’s annual awards banquet.

The Jockeys’ Guild honors three individuals including Jacky Martin for their lifelong commitment to excellence. Martin received
the top award for Quarter Horse jockeys for outstanding achievements in the Quarter Horse racing industry. The Guild also elected G.R. Carter Jr. as Vice Chairman.

Sunland Park stewards issue a ruling against trainer Paul Jones for a zilpaterol violation in July 2011, fining the trainer $1,500 and suspending him for 60 days.

The Arizona Quarter Horse Racing Association inducts three new members into its Hall of Fame. The inductees are: Rillito Park, Howard King and James Kelly’s Double JK Ranch.

The Albuquerque Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation indicts 15 men, including several involved
in Quarter Horse racing, with drug trafficking, money laundering and currency structuring. The New Mexico Horse Racing Commission suspends the licenses of owner/
trainer Ramon Gonzalez, son Ramon Gonzalez Jr. and nephew Andres Gonzalez, as well as owner Homero Varela, in response.

Allens Cash (Shazoom-Allen’s Cashmere TB, Allen’s Prospect) sets a New World Record for 250 yards of :12.588 at
the Hipodromo de Las Americas in Mexico City while winning the Classico Velocidad. It is the first world record set outside of the United States recognized by the American Quarter Horse Association.

A group of Georgia senators propose a constitutional amendment to legalize wagering on horse races in the state. State Resolution 1025 would allow a public vote on amending the state constitution to allow pari-mutuel wagering.

Royal Vista Southwest is featured on a local television news program for their acquisition of the first eyeD equine identification system in the state of Oklahoma. The eyeD system uses an iris scan to identify horses rather than traditional identification methods.

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead signs House Bill 36 (Enrolled Act 6) allowing the Wyoming Pari-mutuel Commission
to issue up to a three-year license for Live Event and Simulcast Permits. It is hoped the bill will bring stability to the state’s racing industry by rewarding good business operators.
