Prairie Meadows and TVG (Television Games Network) sign a contract allowing wagering on Prairie Meadows races through TVG’s computer or telephone Account Deposit Wagering (ADW) program.

New Mexico’s new clenbuterol rules go into effect, lowering threshold levels
to 1-2 picograms/milliliter in blood samples for both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds and exacting a 30-day withdrawal time on use of the drug.
April 24
The California Senate Committee on Governmental Organization unanimously passes SB1523, a bill to establish a fund for the rehabilitation of retired racehorses by inmates in correctional facilities.

The Northern Racing Quarter Horse Association incentive fund for the Sun Downs meet in Kennewick, Washington, is saved thanks to a $20,000 donation
by Abigail Kawananakoa. Rising insurance costs and operating expenses and a reduction in state funding threatened the NRQHA budget, which was saved by Kawananakoa’s generous gift.

The Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame holds a ceremony at Remington Park to induct its first members: Jacky Martin, Dee Raper (pictured), You And Me Partners (Terry Bell and Homer Hill), Lewis Wartchow, Heritage Place, Stolis Winner, Got Country Grip, First Prize Rose, and Josie’s Bar.

The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association partners with OU Health Sciences to offer free health screening at Remington Park for any Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission licensee (owners, trainers, grooms, backside workers, racing office employees, etc.) and their family members.

Jockey Alex Baldillez becomes the 34th jockey to win 1,500 or more races when he rides his 1,500th winner, Kool Cowboy, at Remington Park.
April 19
World Champion trainer Mike Robbins returns to training racehorses, starting his first horse since 1994 and winning with Joe Kirk Fulton’s Differently at Sam Houston Race Park. The very next night he was in the winner’s circle again with Sweet Oblivion, who set a 300-yard track record while winning an allowance race.
April 22
Remington Park and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association host Extreme Racing Day, featuring camel and ostrich races, as a charity fundraiser. G.R. Carter Jr. won the camel race and Ricky Ramirez won the ostrich race, winning a combined $2,000 for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food For Kids Program.

An anti-trust lawsuit is filed against the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) by Jason Abraham, Abraham and Veneklasen Joint Venture and Abraham Equine Inc. The lawsuit seeks to have AQHA’s cloning rule amended to allow cloned horses and their offspring to be registered.

their partnership in the
Los Alamitos Equine Sale, joining Dr. Edward Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm in presenting the 2012 renewal of the California sale.
April 22
The Dean Miracle colt The Miracle tops the Velocidade Sale in Brazil, bringing a final bid of $165,000 U.S. from Haras LM. Haras Prata consigned the colt to the sale, which was produced by Benny Rosset’s Haras Flor Do Campo, Marcelo Jorge’s Haras Sao Jorge and Erico Braja’s Haras Prata.
