Memphis D Nasty earned her first-ever stakes victory in impressive fashion, going wire-to- wire to win the $50,000 KOFX-Radio Handicap at
Sunland Park on Jan. 29.
The biggest longshot in the field at 36-1 odds,
Memphis D Nasty broke on top from the inside starting gate, led by a head at the first call, and held off Stick Shift SC to reach the wire first by a neck. Mario Sanchez trains Memphis D Nasty, who com- pleted the 350-yard trip in :17.151, logging a career high 101 speed index with Jose Ortiz aboard.
Esteban Sanchez Ruiz owns Memphis D Nasty, who earned a $30,000 payday to improve her total earnings to $122,805. Memphis D Nasty had previ- ously run in four graded stakes finals, but never hit the money in stakes company until this out.
Memphis D Nasty was bred in Arizona by Giambi Stables LLC out of winner Jess A Cartel. The mare has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including Grade 1 finalist Hot Tottie. Memphis D Nasty, who finished fourth in last year’s Lovington Stakes-G2, is her top earner and first stakes winner.

The gelding was bred by Carolyn Giles of
Hanna, Utah, and he is one of two winners from
four starters produced by unraced Stars In My Eye.

Billy Montgomery Stakes
SHATTO STOLI
Bby Michael Compton
Shatto Stoli refused to be slowed by a bump soon after the start of the Billy Montgomery Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Jan. 14. The 3-year-old gelding scampered clear of his rivals in the lane to win the the $25,000 event for Louisiana-bred 3 year olds as clearly the best of the field.
Ridden by David Alvarez for trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr., Shatto Stoli hustled away from his 9 rivals after recovering from the bumping incident. He
led by a length at the top of the stretch and crossed the finish 1 1⁄2-lengths ahead of runner-up Lil Bro Big Streak and jockey Alfonso Lujan. Tf Eyesa Firefigther and jockey J. Ramirez finished third, a head behind the place horse.
In winning his 2nd stakes event for owner Rosendo Valdez, Shatto Stoli stopped the timer for 350 yards in a lively :17.493, just ticks off of Vals Fortune’s 2003 track record of :17.319. The winner’s final time earned a speed index of 103. It was the 3rd lifetime win for Shatto Stoli, who previously annexed the LQHBA Invitational Stakes at Evangeline 2 starts back. The $15,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $62,325.
Bred in Louisiana by Juan San Miguel Jr., Shatto Stoli is the first stakes winner produced out of win- ner Scoopie Coochie.
