PAINT MY PILOT

Making his first start since April 21, Paint My Pilot won the $50,000 Mr Jet Moore Handicap-G2 at Ruidoso Downs on Aug. 4.
Paint My Pilot covered the 400 yards in :19.400 and earned a 102 speed index while aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind. Yordanis Amaro rode the 4-year-old colt for owner Double A Ranch Inc. and trainer Jorge Gonzalez.
“He needed this race,” said Gonzalez of Paint My Pilot. “We’ll see how he pulls up, but this should set him up for the Gold Cup. The 440 yards will be no problem for him.”
Campaigned in four states, the colt has won six of 15 starts, and his two career stakes victories include a neck win as the second-fast- est qualifier in the 440-yard $213,200 Dash For Cash Derby-G3 at Lone Star Park last year. Paint My Pilot’s
resume includes a second-place finish in the 2016 Rainbow Futurity-G1.
The $30,000 winner’s share of the Mr
Jet Moore Handicap purse pushed Paint My Pilot’s earnings to $377,577. His record is now 15-6(2)-4(2)-2(2).
Paint My Pilot was bred by Grant Farms LLC and was coming off a third-place finish
in the Bob Moore Memorial Stakes-G2 at Remington Park. The colt is one of 14 winners from 19 starters produced by Ms Pilot Point, who won the 2006 AQHA East Distaff Challenge Stakes-G3 at Delta Downs. Paint My Pilot is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including 2010 All American Futurity-G1 winner Mr Piloto.
The Mr Jet Moore Handicap honors the memory of the sport’s 1972 World
Champion, and it is the final local prep for the 440-yard $200,000 All American Gold Cup- G1 on Labor Day weekend.
Bodacious Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Bodacious Dream) finished second for owner Johnny Trotter. Cody Jensen rode the multiple graded stakes winning 6-year-old gelding for trainer Mike Joiner.
Michael and Beth Harper’s Firing Tools (Walk Thru Fire-No Tools Required) finished third. The 4-year-old gelding was ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer Mike Robbins.
Apolltical Chad (Apollitical Jess-Fast Prize Tracy) was fourth and was followed by Apollitical OK (Apollitical Jess-Taka Puna), High Plains Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Sky Chicks), Mr Apollitical Dash (Mr Jess Perry-Apollitical Dash) and Once Over (Walk Thru Fire-Look Her Over). Born To B Bad and Myst Fit were scratched.
