TQHA Sale Futurity Juvenile

Cartel M notched his first stakes victory in the $38,853 TQHA Sale Futurity Juvenile Stakes at Retama Park on Aug. 4.
After four were scratched, six horses competed in the 350-yard event. Cartel M stepped away from the 2-post late under jockey Juan Garcia Jr., but the filly grabbed the lead in the stretch and crossed the wire a neck in front.
The pair completed the race in :18.135, posting an 86 speed index.
Cartel M brought home the $13,599 win-
ner’s share of the purse, boosting her total lifetime earnings to $17,844. She now has a race record of 5-1(1)-2-1. Gustavo Canales owns the filly and Pedro Lopez trains her.
Cartel M was a $7,500 repurchase in the 2017 TQHA Yearling Sale.
Eduardo Galindo bred Cartel M out of 3-time winner Magic O Toole, who is a half-sister to 2005 Prescott Valley Lassie Futurity-G3 runner-up Ms Gypsy Magic. Magic O Toole has produced 100% money earners from seven starters. Six of her seven starters have become winners, including top earner Ms Waimea Bay. Cartel M is her first stakes winner.
Louisiana Hit Man (The Louisiana Cartel-Seis Passes) and Francisco Calderon finished second
for owner T. C. Flack and trainer Leon Bard. The gelding was coming off his first victory in the July 13 trials of the TQHA Sale Futurity.
The Dealers On Fire (Dealagame-Fire In The Tank) was third under Jose Martinez for owner Pete A. Scarmardo and trainer Leon Bard.
Gone Regardless (Chicks Regard-Goin Gone), Our Mr TD (Tempting Dash-Our Miss Perry) and Mosco Fly With Me (Jess Fly With Me-Waves South Of Jolla) completed the order of finish.
Lindsaysecretdancer, New News, Temptation Is Sweet and This Guys A Volcom were scratched.

CAPT USA

The Appaloosa gelding Capt USA won an accident- marred running of the $20,500 Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Retama Park on Aug. 4. He and Tres Miracles got away on top and battled with Due Run Run. Capt USA defeated Tres Miracles by a neck with Juan Garcia Jr. aboard to complete the 350 yards in :18.616.
Trent Alexander trains Capt USA for owner Gary Vaughan, who bred Capt USA in Oklahoma. Capt USA most recently broke his maiden at Fair Meadows in his fifth start.
Vaughan bred Capt USA from his homebred Quarter Horse mare Star Of Olene, a winner and Grade 2 finalist. The mare has produced 100% earners from
2 starters, including Quarter Horse Sgt Rock and Paint Star N Decash. Capt USA is her first stakes winner.
Sandra Garnett-Tatom’s homebred Tres Miracles APHA (View Me Flying QH-Together Again) fin- ished second under Nestor Duran who rode the filly for trainer Esteban Rubio.
Due Run Run APHA (CRM Livewire-Country Judy) finished third, but was disqualified for inter- ference and placed seventh. Royal Chachingalinga ApHC (Special Royal Corona QH-Cha Ching) clipped heels with Due Run Run and fell. O P Royal Corona APHA (Cartel Success QH-OP Rebbecca) and C R B Eyes APHA (Double Kandu QH-Bat Them Eyes) also fell due to the incident.
Wade and Charles Leggett’s homebred CL Loaded Flash APHA (Cocked An Loaded-Contenders Flash), ridden by Jose Martinez, was moved into third place. Alexander also trains CL Loaded Flash. The dis- qualification moved Indestructibull ApHC (Agouti QH-Omega Bull) into fourth, VP Special Danger APHA (VP Slick Winner-Country Danger) into fifth, and Big Red Crush APHA (Awesome Chrome-Gotta Grippin Image) into sixth O P Royal Corona, C R B Eyes & Royal Chachingalinga did not finish.

JESS CUZ

Adisqualification elevated Jess Cuz to a break- through victory, putting the filly in the winner’s circle for the $15,500 Colors of the Wind Paint and Appaloosa Stakes at Retama Park on Aug. 4.
She broke from the 8-gate under Jose Vega and ran a solid second for the entirety of the event and finished the 350-yard trip in :18.387 for an 80 speed index. Dee Keener trains the filly.
This was the first win in stakes company for Jess Cuz, who logged her fourth triumph in 16 career starts for owner/breeder Jeff Adams. With the $8,525 pay- day, the filly now has $79,487 in lifetime earnings, and posted her second victory in five outs thus far in 2018.
The 2017 Appaloosa Champion 3-Year-Old Filly came into the race with three previous runner-up finishes in stakes company.
Adams bred Jess Cuz out of ApHC Supreme Champion Jess Streakin. She has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including stakes winner D Railed, who won last year’s Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Retama Park. Jess Cuz is her second stakes winner.
Traxxus APHA (Country Quick Dash -Furr Flyin QH) finished second under Noe Suarez for owner Jose Mario Terrazas and trainer Arturo Garcia.
A Streakin Apple APHA (CRM Livewire-Judys Scat Cat) and Juan Garcia Jr, were third for owner Robert Johnson III and trainer Trent Alexander.
Wiredup APHA (CRM Livewire-Im Gone Too) was DQ’d from first to fifth. Taken It Tothe Limit APHA (Carters Cartel QH-Judy Janise) was fourth, followed by Texas Country Snowman APHA (SM Country Snowman -Honey Im Home), Jess Icy APHA (Boknaai QH-Together Again), Cajun Prize ApHC (The Louisiana Cartel QH-Eye On The Prize), Tell Him Bye APHA (Hiclass La Jolla QH-Dial Judy) and Once A Warrior ApHC (Agouti QH-Omega Bull), who was DQ’d from fifth to tenth.
