2018 ALL AMERICAN DERBY QUALIFIERS
Race record: 9-6(3)-0-2(1)
The 3rd trial was a productive one, as the top 3 finishers all qualified for the All American Derby, in- cluding fastest qualifier Dashnunder Afullmoon. Ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr., Dashnunder Afullmoon broke slightly to the inside from the 2 post, but quickly straightened out and raced to the front of the pack. The filly drew clear to win wire-to-wire by 1-length, stopping the timer in :21.131 for the 440 yards. The All American Derby will mark the 6th stakes appearance for Dashnunder Afullmoon, who previously won the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1, Louisiana-Bred Lassie Futurity-RG2 and Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile-RG2. Rogelio Marquez Jr. owns the PYC Paint Your Wagon daughter,
who is out of stakes winner Full Moon Dasher si 114 ($122.086). Dashnunder Afullmoon, who was saddled in the trials by Josue Ponce, is a 1/2-sister to stakes-placed Jen And Vodka si 83 ($42,155).
HES LIMITLESS SI 98 $375,580
Racing from the 8-hole, Hes Limitless and jockey Agustin Silva challenged Dashnunder Afullmoon to finish second in the third trial. Their time of :21.278 held as the second-fastest among All American Derby qualifiers. John Stinebaugh saddled Hes Limitless for owner Jack Smith Farms, who bred the gelding along with Susie Taylor and Denny Bowen. Hes Limitless has spent the majority of his career at Ruidoso Downs, where he has found the most success. Last year, he was fourth in the All American Futurity-G1 and second in the Rainbow Juvenile Stakes, and earlier this year, he ran second in the Rainbow Derby-G1. The gelded son of Corona Cartel is the second foal out of 2012 Ruidoso Futurity- G1 winner and All American Futurity finalist PJ Chick In Black si 101 ($652,081). Her first foal was stakes-placed AJ Chick In 15 si 97 ($36,097), who is still racing.
HOTSTEPPER SI 96 $566,421
The final All American Derby trial yielded one qualifier when Hotstepper, ridden by Cody Jensen, raced to a 1-length victory in :21.384. The heavy favorite was coming off a 4th in the Rainbow Derby-G1 for owners Johnny Cope, R.D. Hubbard, Rafter W Stables and Henry Southway. C. Dwayne Gilbreath trains Hotstepper, who has racked up more than a half-million in earnings while still chasing an elusive stakes win. In addition to his Rainbow Derby appearance, Hotstepper was 2nd in the Texas Classic Futurity-G1, 3rd in the All American Futurity-G1, 3rd in the Mr Jess Perry Derby and 8th in the Rain- bow Futurity-G1. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranch bred Hotstepper, who is by One Famous Eagle and is the second foal out of Pandorum, by Tres Seis. PEIGHNT YOUR FATE SI 96 $93,643
Reliance Ranches LLC bred and owns Peighnt Your Fate, a lightly started colt who didn’t make his 2 year old debut until September at Los Alamitos Race Course. His sophomore campaign began in July, when he was second in an allowance in his more recent appearance prior to the All American Derby trials. Saddled by Mike Robbins, Peighnt Your Fate carried jockey Stormy Smith to a third-place finish in the third trial, finishing in :21.388.
