BULLY PULPIT

Dan and Kaye Jones raced their home- bred CRM Livewire to several Paint Championships and hoped he would repro-
duce himself as a stallion. The stallion’s first foals are now 2 year olds, and they are already winning. The Joneses own Bully Pulpit, winner of the April 29 PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1 at Remington Park.
“We were so excited because ‘Livewire’ qualified four to the final,” said Kaye. “We’re pretty proud of him.”
Horses by CRM Livewire finished first, second, fourth, and seventh in the final. Bully Pulpit went right to the front under jockey Cody Smith, who also rode his sire, won by
a 1/2-length in :17.693 for 350 yards. Matt Whitekiller, CRM Livewire’s trainer, also trains Bully Pulpit.
Remington Park Juvenile
CRM Livewire stands at Henry and Linda Bowlan’s Bowlan Farms in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Veterinarian Chuck Bowlan, Henry and Linda’s son, bred Bully Pulpit, who has made his sire popular.
“I talked to Chuck and Linda this morn- ing,” said Kaye two days after the race. “They said the phone was ringing off the hook.”
Dan and Kaye purchased Bully Pulpit as a weanling from Chuck. Linda named the youngster while reading a book about Theodore Roosevelt, and she used a phrase Roosevelt coined. Usually, Dan and
Kaye name their horses for grandchildren. CRM Livewire is named for granddaughter Callie Rose Malsbury.
Bully Pulpit is out of winner Judys Apollo, who has produced two starters, both winners. Judys Apollo
traces back to Champion Judys Chick, Bully Pulpit’s third dam, whose foals include Champion and a million-dollar Paint sire Judys Lineage.
Fishin Paint (CRM Livewire-First
Place Fish QH) owned and trained by Ray Enlow, ran second for jockey Mario Chavez. Whitekiller also trains third-place Bar Quero (Royal Quick Flash-Chicks Lacerta), bred and owned by Sammy and Nadine Hester. Cesar Gomez rode the filly.
Completing the field were Hotwiredotcom (CRM Livewire-Iwilliewantarunner QH), JS Apollo Six (Texas Six-J S Apollos Pride TB), DTL Samureye (Royal Quick Flash-Eysa
Savvy Queen), RP Recklesslivewire (CRM Livewire-RP Miss Reckess Dash QH) & Quick Tosa (Royal Quick Flash-Sen Tosa). DJ Pauly D and DTL Lil Red Corvette were scratched.

        WEETONAS LAFAWN
by Dillon Hamilton
Weetonas Lafawn stormed down the track for her first stakes win in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile Stakes for two year olds at Remington Park on April 23.
Owner/trainer Dustin Cox knew his filly’s chances of taking home victory would be high.
“She’s a nice filly and she ran a wonderful trial race. I had a real positive feeling and she was ready to roll,” Cox said. Weetonas Lafawn won her April 8 trial to the Remington
Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity,
but just missed qualifying from
the two days of trials.
“As soon as they broke, I knew we had it. You give me a second and a half away from the gate with G. R. Carter,
Jr. on top, and I’ll take my chances,” Cox said.
Weetonas Lafawn battled rival Streaks Of Ivory all the way down the track, exchang- ing leads in the process, but
the bay filly proved too much for Streaks Of Ivory. Weetonas Lafawn went all out down the 330-yard fast track in :16.870 and earned an 87 speed index.
Cox attributes the filly’s intelligence to family traits and excellent breeding.
“Her greatest asset is her intelligence.
She’s just like her brother Im A Fancy PYC in many ways. I’d like to thank Im A Fancy PYC
along with Fred and Weetona Stanley because without them, I wouldn’t have this filly,” Cox said. “She’s really gritty and tough. I think she’ll be a really competitive horse for a long time.”
Weetonas Lafawn brought home the $40,000 winner’s share of the purse, bring-
ing her lifetime earnings to $49,006.
Weetona Stanley bred Weetonas Lafawn out of winner
First Prize Fancy. She has produced 100% money earners from 18 starters, including graded stakes winner/top earner Im A Fancy PYC.
Streaks Of Ivory (Ivory James-Streakin Rare) finished second with James Flores aboard for owner Terry McLean and trainer John Weghorst.
VF Zeus (Foose-Wheely Quick) gave a solid effort under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr., but fin- ished third for owner Victory Farms and trainer Brian Muse.
Best Behavior (Jess Lips-Cruzin The Wagon), Makit Snappi (One Dashing Eagle-Duck Mea Running), Rmiss Fireball (Walk Thru Fire- Rmiss Jessy), First Of 15 (Apollitical Jess-Tinys Corona Queen), Heza High Return (High Rate Of Return-Fast Dashin Renee), High Valley Girl (Valiant Hero-Huckleberry Mojito) & Valiant Strawfly (Valiant Hero-Strawfly Lady) com- pleted the order of finish.
