EAGLES SOAR
by Michael Cusortelli
An $80,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Eagles Soar broke his maiden in
a big way, as the colt by One Famous Eagle won the $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Stakes at Sunland Park on April 15.
Eagles Soar broke on top from the first post position under Jose Montoya and scored a wire- to-wire finish. The pair covered the 300 yards in :15.345 to earn a 86 speed index. The sorrel colt is owned by Jack Manning and trained by John Cooper. The $23,500 winner’s share of the West Texas Juvenile Stakes bumped his bankroll to $24,390 from two outs.
Eagles Soar was bred by Dr. Steve Burns DVM out of graded stakes winner Enjoy The Walk,
who won the 2012 California Breeders’ Matron Stakes-RG3 at Los Alamitos. The mare has produced 100% money earners from three starters, including 2-time winner Enjoy The Corona. Eagles Soar is
her top earner and first stakes winner. Eagles Soar’s second dam, Enjoy The Moment, won three graded stakes at Los Alamitos in ’04 including the Las Damas Handicap-G2.

Desert Classic Futurity
MY PISTOLITA
by Tracy Gantz
Even though Louisiana-bred Triple Vodka Memorys and Colorado-bred Discrete Glory were the favorite and second choice, it was all Arizona in
the Desert Classic Futurity on April 30. The event at Turf Paradise resulted in a long shot victory by Arizona-bred My Pistolita.
Triple Vodka Memorys and Discrete Glory each reared separately in the starting gate and were then involved with bumping incidents during the race. My Pistolita and jockey Rick Oliver, however, came away from the 5-post on top and remained in front through- out to win the 300-yard race by a nose in :15.851 earning an 83 speed index.
Leonard Espinoza trains My Pistolita for owner Rigoberto Guillen, who bred the filly out of lightly raced Tribal Force TB. My Pistolita was breaking her maiden in the Desert Classic Futurity, having run second in a maiden race and third in her futurity trial. Tribal Force TB is a 100% Quarter Horse money producer from two starters. Top earner My Pistolita is her only stakes winner.
Martha Wells owns and bred second-place Higher Icon (Texas Icon-Flyhigher). Rodolfo Arvizu rode the gelding for trainer Matthew Fales. In two previous starts, Higher Icon won a maiden race and finished second in his trial.
Larry Gamez rode Shakin Cash (The Bounty Man- Shakin Sugar) to third for trainer Charles Acosta and owner Joel Moreno. Shakin Cash finished second in one of her two prior starts.
Nicos Favoritecartel (Favorite Cartel-Corona Countess) finished fourth and was followed by Texas Tornadoe (Texas Icon-It’s a Dry Heat TB), Discrete Glory (No Secrets Here-DG Miss Daisy), Pirteville Cartel (Flair For Dancing-Buds Pretty In Blue), Triple Vodka Memorys (Triple Vodka-Splashed Memories), Tanyah Tucker (Texas Icon-Phenomena) & Olivia First Choice (A Regal Choice-Cartel Moon).

JESS A COWBOY
by John Moorehouse
It took a photo finish for Jess A Cowboy to secure his fifth career stakes victory in the $60,480 Bank Of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge
on April 30.
This latest stakes win did not come easy for Jess
A Cowboy when he broke from the 6-post. He was running a close second at the stretch, then made
a late surge to reach the finish line first by a neck. Vince Guerra rode Jess a Cowboy, who finished the 440-yard race in :21.678 and earned a 101 speed index. Matthew Fales trains Jess A Cowboy.
Jess A Cowboy reached the winner’s circle for the seventh time in 21 total starts and collected a $27,820 payday that improved the gelding’s total bankroll to $142,511.
