Paul Harber P&A Memorial
STAR POWER INTENT

Star Power Intent secured his second stakes victory in the $20,720 Paul Harber Memorial, a 350- yard dash for three-year-old and older Paints and Appaloosas at Remington Park on April 14.
The track was fast with a 16mph head wind when Star Power Intent broke third from the inside with jockey Paul Nieto in the irons. The duo took the lead in the stretch and held off the fierce compe- tition for a 3/4-length victory. Finishing with a time of :17.810 for a 80 speed index, Star Power Intent took home the $11,700 winner’s share for owner/ trainer Oscar Nunez.
The Appaloosa gelding now has cumulative earn- ings of $53,049 and a race record of 16-5(2)-2(2)-4. His last stakes victory was the 2016 Lorelei Paint and Appaloosa Derby-G1 at Will Rogers Downs.
Star Power Intent was bred in Kansas by Daniel Grotheer out of two-time winner Power Buggy. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters. 2016 South Central Regional Champion Star Power Intent is her top earner and first stakes winner as well as her only registered Appaloosa foal.
With a solid ride from Larry Payne, Cant Be Caught ApHC (With Intent-Unique Form QH) finished second after a slow start for owner John Diediker and trainer Guillermo Valdivia.
Ivoriona APHA (Ivory James QH-Friona) broke fast, but was unable to hold on to the lead, finishing third under Jorge Torres for owners Randy Hill & Mickey Johnson. Stacy Charette-Hill trains the filly.
Royal Snowman APHA (SM Country Snowman-Sheza Royal Secret) finished fourth and was followed by Dashin JJ APHA (Little Jungle Jet-Dashin Di QH), Major Mac APHA (Judys Lineage-Peggys Bouquet QH) and Cashmere Queen APHA (Royal Quick Flash-Eysa Savvy Queen). Eye Dream Country APHA and Jo Chrome APHA scratched.

DASHIN TURNPIKE

The wet weather could not dampen the spirits of the horses entered in the $21,746 Victoria Ennis Memorial Paint & Appaloosa Handicap at Remington Park on April 29.
Although the track was sloppy, Dashin Turnpike stepped away in the lead from the inside post assisted by a 15 mph tail wind. Down the stretch, he started to drift out, but rider Paul Nieto was able maintain their position to cross the line 1 3/4-length in front to stop the clock in :16.823 for the 330-yard dash for an 88 speed index.
Dashin Turnpike took home the $12,810 win- ner’s share of the purse, pushing his lifetime earnings to $13,742. Guillermo Valdivia trains the gelding for owner Tommy L. Davenport.
Dashin Turnpike was bred by Marilyn O. Dover out of winner Flashy Turnpike. She has produced 100% money earners/winners from two starters. Dashin Turnpike is her top earner and first stakes winner.
El Diablo Chicken APHA (Royal Quick Flash- Game Chicken) was bumped at the start, but fought back for a second place finish. His team includes owner Shirley Wheeler and trainer Luis Villafranco. David Pinon was handling the reins. The photo showed
that Im The Captain Now APHA (Favorite Cartel QH-Sexy Senorita) was in third place. His connections include owner Charles R. Leggett and trainer Dee Keener. Veteran rider Ricky Ramirez was in the irons.

JM COUNTRY MAN

JM Country Man extended his 3-race win streak with a victory in the Animas Stakes for 3 year olds at SunRay Park on April 21.
Racing for Javier Marquez’s J & M Racing and Farm and trainer Cynthia Gonzalez, JM Country Man and rider Mauro Salcedo broke on top, but got off to a slow start from the 5-post. They were able to make up enough ground, however, to cross the wire first by a neck. The pair covered the 400 yards in :19.576 while earning a career best speed index of 94. Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, JM Country Man has won three of seven starts and placed third in two other events. The $18,000 win- ner’s share of the Animas Stakes purse bumped his bankroll to $147,539. His current streak includes a 1-length win in last year’s inaugural $224,558 La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.
JM Country Man was bred by Corner K Quarter Horses LLC in Arkansas from graded stakes winner Sumokin, who won the 2011 Black Gold Futurity Championship-RG3 at Will Rogers Downs.
Highest Return (High Rate Of Return-Cute N Rimen), after breaking ahead, wasn’t able to hold onto the lead at the last call and finished second for owner Marquez Racing LLC. Ruben Calderon rode the sorrel gelding for trainer Eric Marquez.
Ben Peterson’s Mahoney N Tacklebery (Favorite Cartel-Fountain Bleu) ran third. Alfredo Sigala rode the homebred gelding for trainer Todd Fincher.
