Mickey Ward is making it a habit of winning the AQHA Turf Paradise Distance Challenge, now for the third consecutive year. The six-year-old gelding
won the latest version of it by a commanding margin of 5 1/4-lengths on April 30.
He left little doubt in this one, exploding from
the 4-post and seizing a 4-length lead by the first call. Jockey Jorge Bourdieu kept the gelding ahead by a very comfortable margin the rest of the way as he covered the 870 yards in :44.771 for a 101 speed index.
He has earned five overall victories from 17 starts, with 3 being stakes wins. The $9,967 payday improved his career bankroll to $59,542 with this win. Mickey Ward now is qualified to the AQHA Distance Challenge Championship, which will be held at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 14 and has a guar- anteed purse of $105,000.
Ralph and Carolyn Fales home-bred Mickey Ward, who is trained by Matthew Fales. Matt enjoyed three stakes wins on the day, also prepping the winning horse in the Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge.
The Fales also own Mickey Ward’s dam, 2-time winner A Mere Formality. The mare has produced 100% money earners/winners/ROM from eight start- ers, including Canada Hi-Point Aged Gelding/2-time New Track Record setter/top earner Rockish and stakes placed winners A Mere Corona and All She Wants.
Executive Trust (Executive Menace-Entrust), the betting favorite, finished 2nd for owner Sherree Meridyth and trainer Guadalupe Munoz, Jr. Ruby Gonzalez did the riding. Rare Ed (Dean Miracle-Ms Corona Jet), who finished 3rd, is owned by Martin Marin and trained by Ernesto Alcoverde. Luis Yescas was the jockey. Followed by A Tidal Delight (Wave Carver-Fortune Of Delight), Fighter Gone Wild (Fighter On Fire-Wanna Know Now), Easee Ryder (Heza Motor Scooter-Sweet Escape) & YN Shagouti (Agouti-Shagin It).

Turf Paradise is friendly turf for Cowboys Dynasty. The sophomore colt secured his second stakes vic- tory in the $41,277 AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby at the Arizona track on April 8.
After posting the top qualifying time of :17.745 in the March 25 trials, Cowboys Dynasty was the 3-2 betting favorite. He broke well under Jesus Osuna from the 10-post in a nine-horse field, grab- bing the lead for an impressive victory by 3/4-length.
Owner Alvaro Monteverde also trains Cowboys Dynasty, who finished the 350-yard race in :17.664 and posted a 96 speed index. The $20,639 payday improved his total earnings to $61,771.
The win marked the third straight victory at Turf Paradise for the brown colt. In fact, four of his five victories have been tallied at Turf Paradise. He is now 4(1)-2(1)-2 from just 10 starts that include a second-place effort in February’s Rillito Park Derby.
Corner K Quarter Horses, LLC, bred Cowboys Dynasty out of stakes winner Mexican Radio. The mare has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including top earner/graded stakes winner Ebony Eyes and stakes placed Poor Poor Pitful Me, who finished third in the Maple Leaf Futurity at Ajax Downs.
Fitz (Mr Jess Perry-Dividends Declared) finished second for owner Yuriana Ramirez and trainer Ricardo Ramirez. Raul Ramirez, Jr. did the riding. Apollitical Boogie (Apollitical Jess-Shakin Ana Dashin) finished third for owner Amado De La Riva and trainer Eloy Mendoza. Rodolfo Arvizu was in the irons.
Completing the field were LT Manup (Jesse James Jr-Moving South), Sweet Babie James (One Sweet Jess-Already In Love), Mi Favorito (Favorite Cartel- Merry Corona), Movin The Doe (Maknmoves- Bundle Doe), Fly First Dash (First Down Dash-Shirleys Strawfly) and Mr Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Jess Joyner). Arizona Icon scratched.

Cowgirl N Up remained undefeated and added black type to her career record when she won the $34,380 John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge
in dominant fashion on April 30.
The filly made her maiden out in the Juvenile trials
on April 8, covering the 350-yards in :18.254, which marked the second-quickest qualifying time. Cowgirl N Up was much faster in the stakes final, finishing in :17.839 for a 91 speed index.
Jorge Bourdieu rode Cowgirl N Up to a $15,815 payday, which increased her cumulative earnings to $17,601. The victory also qualified the filly for the John Deere Juvenile Championship, a race with a guaranteed purse of $130,000 at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 14.
Matthew Fales trains Cowgirl N Up, one of three Challenge stakes victories for the Arizona-based trainer on the April 30 card. He also prepped the winning horses in the Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge, as well as the Zoetis Turf Paradise Distance Challenge.
Bred by breeder/owner Ralph and Carolyn Fales, Cowgirl N Up is the second stakes winner out of 5-time stakes winner and New Track Record Setter Secret Return. The mare has produced 100% money earners from eight starters with 4-time stakes winner Jess A Cowboy her top earner.
Famous Joker (One Famous Eagle-Ms Pilot Point) closed well for 2nd under Raul Ramirez Jr. for owner Yuriana Ramirez and trainer by Ricardo Ramirez. Veronica Pelayo owns Arrow Of Cupid (Foose-Rita Alto), who was 3rd under Emilio Tapia for trainer Eloy Mendoza. Followed by Dig Deeper (One Sweet Jess- Halfpast Aheartbreak), KR American Pi (One Sweet Jess-KR American Girl), Stay All Nite (Texas Icon- Girls Rock), HW Double Down Perry (Dejon-Streakns Easy), Pure Ivory (Ivory James-First Down Destiny), Tribal Dash Princess (Tempting Dash-Apache Heart) & Looker Over (Stel Corona-Getit Together).
