                                Chirina Glorys Classic
TEMPTING ONE
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Dedicated to honor the Mexican Champion Chirina Glorys, the stakes that bears her name was held on April 9 over a distance of
350 yards with the participation of seven fil- lies and mares three years and older, all bred in the United States and disputing a prize of $313,700 pesos (approximately US $16,713).
Eight were actually entered, but with the withdrawal of The Ivory Letter from the Cuadra Santiago, only seven broke through the gates.
This clasico is the second of the season exclusively for females. Recently, the AQHA Mexico Distaff Challenge was held with the same conditions, where Puddles Cash was the winner. Entered in the Chirina Glorys, she was marked as favorite in the odds to bring to her record the second stakes win of 2017.
Puddles Cash was the first to cross the fin- ish line, but her restlessness at the starting gate resulted in a deviated turn to the right that affected the start of Tempting One (#8), which in the opinion of the stewardess, was enough to take her from the throne and put the latter in the place of honor. Tempting One, well assisted by international rider Esgar Ramirez, recovered from the incident promptly and took her route, always to the right but very close to pairing with the offender, finishing by a neck in second place. Down the center of the track,
Litely Political (#3) and Looks Like Fire (#4) made valiant efforts that were suf- ficient to finish in third and fourth place, respectively.
The official time of the
race was :17.23, sufficient
for a 99 speed index. The
filly, who is owned by the
Cuadra Santa Rosa Chiapas,
remains unbeaten in three
performances, having previ-
ously conquered the AQHA
Mexico Maiden Challenge, also guided by Esgar Ramírez. Out of the mare One Slick Jessie (by Mr Jess Perry), Tempting One is the second progeny of Tempting Dash with a stakes win at the Hipodromo de las Americas since on March 20, Tempting Splash Dash conquered the Easily A Possum Clasico.
Bred in the United States by Luis Miguel Albores Gleason, the sorrel filly was saddled by trainer Nahum de Jesus Lagunes Montero. On this occasion, the reward was $188,220 pesos (approximately US $10,028).
After her disqualification, Puddles Cash (Pool - Apollo Moon Cash) was relocated to second place. She was ridden by leadership of Moisés González García for owner Cuadra H.
M. D. and trainer Antonio León Ramos.
Winner of the 2016 Juvenile Championship, Litely Political (Apollitical Jess - Strobe Lite) finished in third with the assistance of José Ángel Ambrosio Medina for owner Cuadra San Judas Tadeo and trainer Rubén Romo García.
Followed by Looks Like Fire (Walk Thru Fire
– Executive Looks), Lonely In Front BR (Favorite Cartel – Strenght In Numbers), Beaded Lace (Hawkinson – Burnin Bye) & Submarinor (Brimmerton – Corona Edge).
