Lil Miss Sashay became the second of 2 fillies as
well as the second richest to qualify to the All American Futurity. The sorrel filly made her first start going wire-to-wire in the Ruidoso Futurity trials, winning by
1 3/4-lengths. She qualified to the $1,000,000 finals with the fourth fastest clocking,
and was fourth in the finals after stumbling at the start and bumping with
a few competitors. She earned the lion’s share of her bank from that race. Next, Lil Miss Sashay was second in her Rainbow Futurity trial and did not qualify. She won her second race in the All American Futurity trials. Ricky Ramirez was aboard for the trip, in which she broke well from the 3-gate, grabbed the early lead, and increased her margin to finish 1 1/2-lengths on top. first start in a maiden race at Remington Park in March, finishing a distant eighth
after getting bumped and sandwiched between rivals at the start. It was a tough begin- ning for the sorrel gelding. He next stepped into the gates
for a trial to the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity, but this time he bore out and
was out-finished. He moved from Oklahoma to New Mexico, and his third out was in a July 27 maiden at Ruidoso Downs in which he once again failed to make it to the winner’s circle. But, when it really counted, Mr Jess Jenkins stepped up in his All American Futurity trial. Breaking from the 6-gate, he
was once again bumped, but he was out well in second and immediately had a head lead at the first call. Widening his margin with every step, Mr Jess Jenkins turned 1/2-length at the top of the stretch into 1 1/2-lengths at the wire. With James Flores up for trainer Marcos Carrizales, Mr Jess Jenkins held on to his place in the finals through the remaining eight heats, ultimately taking the sixth overall qualifying spot. Bred by V. H. Harman Jr. and Robert Moudy III, Mr Jess Jenkins is owned by Jose Ernesto Guzman and Rito Sosa. The gelding is by World Champion/multiple Champion sire Apollitical Jess, who is also the sire of 2018 All American Futurity winner Apocalyptical Jess and All American Derby winners Apollitical Blood (2015) and Hold Air Hostage (2017). Mr Jess Jenkins is a half-brother to stakes winner MSG Image Of Sixes and out of an unraced daughter of World Champion barrel sire Dashing Cleat.
