“We are ‘baby boomers,’ as our parents had just come back from WW2 to our small town near Wichita (Mulvane), Kansas. Deb’s parents were small town business folks, but she always loved horses. They bought ‘Brownie,’ a sturdy pony, for her in about third grade. Even though she and
her family lived in town, she and Brownie knew the Mulvane area backward and forward. They knew all of the rivers and creeks, as well as all of the farmers and horsemen. She followed the rodeos in south central Kansas and became a good barrel racer. Debbie was a loyal friend to everyone. She had a terrific sense of humor and never knew
a stranger. Some may not believe this, but in
her senior year, she was named ‘Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year’ and she was proud of that honor. Debbie became a leader in the community. When she ran and was elected to the Kansas State House of Representatives, a kind gentleman in our town said, ‘You know, Debbie has been running for office her entire life,’ because even growing up, everyone knew her as sincere, honest, and caring. Because she had worked hard all of her life, she also worked hard for her constituents. She had a strong faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior, so we look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.”

Debbie Nye Schauf has been both a friend, a mentor, and an ally as together we endeavored to make things better for an industry we both love. To say I’ll miss her is an understatement. Her wealth of knowledge was an asset to me, to AQHA, and to the entire industry. She used her years of expertise to the benefit of us all.
- Janet VanBebber
“Debbie Schauf’s leadership, intellect and tireless dedication to Quarter Horse racing was unsurpassed. She was a major positive influence nationally as well as regionally, but it is in Oklahoma where her impact was greatest. She will be sorely missed by all of us here at Remington Park and across the industry.”
– Scott Wells, General Manager Remington Park
“Debbie was THE most knowledgeable individual on all aspects of the horse racing industry I ever met. Her contributions to Oklahoma Quarter Horse racing were massive and will be felt for many decades to come. We enjoy the finest Quarter Horse racing in the United States today, in large part, because of her hard work, knowledge and dogged determination. Her passion for the Quarter Horse on the race track knew no bounds. She loved the horse, the people and atmosphere it created. She loved every aspect of what it meant to be a “racetracker”. There is a large hole in the universe that may never be filled with her like again.”
