When Los Alamitos Race Course track announcer Ed Burgart calls One Dashing Eagle one of the best 2-year-olds he has ever called, you had better sit up and take notice. It is high praise for the colt who raced his way to an all-time single season earn- ing’s record as well as the title of 2012 World Champion.
One Dashing Eagle was also named Champion 2-Year-Old and Champion 2-Year- Old Colt, while his owners—Jose and Gustavo De La Torre and San Gregorio Racing Stables (Jorge Carmona)—were named AQHA Champion Owners.
One Dashing Eagle had one of the greatest seasons of all-time, winning six of seven starts. He became the first horse to win three races with purses of $1 million or more and also became the first horse to earn over $2 million in a single year. The million-dollar races he won are the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1, the All American Futurity-G1, and the Golden State Million Futurity-G1. His earnings stand at $2,079,065.
One Dashing Eagle’s breeders, the Allred Brothers, were recognized as the AQHA Champion Breeders as well. The Allred Brothers—Jerry, Harvey and Dale—bred the winners of four Grade 1 races in 2012, with those Grade 1 wins recorded by One Dashing Eagle and Carters Cookie. The Allred Brothers were inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2000.
One Dashing Eagle heads an elite list of only 10 2-year-olds that have been named World Champion. The last was Stolis Winner in 2008. Through it all, his connections have been humble and gracious, acknowledging the horse’s breeding and talent.
One Dashing Eagle’s first stakes win came in the $1,001,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity. He had won his trial by three-quarters of a length, setting the top qualifying time.
