DASH GLORY EASE si 86, $55,887
South American Champion
Breeder/Owner: Haras Fazenda Bela Ltd. Trainers: J. Sampaio & Paul Jones Jockeys: J. A. Gomez & Cesar DeAlba 2012 Record: 3-1(1)-1(0)-0(0), $55,887,
1st Bank Of America South America Championship Challenge, 10th Bank Of America Challenge Championship-G1
In a rare occurrence, racing fans in the U.S. actu- ally got to see South American Champion Dash Glory Ease compete in 2012. The 4-year-old stal-
lion traveled more than 7,000 miles from his home in Brazil to Iowa to run in the Bank of America Challenge Championship-G1 on Oct. 27.
Dash Glory Ease’s first official start recorded by the American Quarter Horse Association was in the Jan. 28 trials to the $104,774 Bank Of America South America Championship Challenge, where he finished second by a nose. He returned to win the finals by a neck, covering the 440 yards in :21.470 for a speed index of 113. That win assured
the stallion his AQHA Championship, as the winner of that race is named the AQHA South American Champion each year. His Brazilian race record also includes wins in the 2011 GP Profissionais do Turfe and GP Encerramento.
After Dash Glory Ease’s Challenge win, owner-breeder Wellington Queiroz, of Haras Fazenda Bela Ltd., sent the stallion to the north- ern hemisphere. It was a decision he also made in 2010, with Splash To Paradise, when he finished ninth in the 2010 Bank Of America Challenge Championship-G1. Splash To Paradise stayed in the United States and became an allowance win- ner shortly thereafter. Dash Glory Ease finished 10th in the 2012 Bank Of America Challenge Championship-G1, and may also stay in the U.S.
Despite his lack of success in the American Challenge races, Wellington’s son, Rafael, said his father is still honored to be able to be a part of the program. “We know it’s very difficult
to win this race,” said Dr. Ricardo Esquerre, who traveled from Brazil with Rafael to watch the race. “But it is an honor to participate. We are so excited and happy to have the chance to participate in this very important race.”
Queiroz was one of the first Brazilians to import Quarter Horses in the early 1980s. Among his imports are World Champion Super Sound Charge and top stallions Ronas Ryon and Holland Ease. In Brazil, Queiroz’s Haras Fazenda Bela has been the top breeder by money earned and races won during the past two decades. Of the six South America Challenge races conducted to date, half of the winners were bred by the farm, in addition to the top four finishers in this year’s race.
Dash Glory Ease wins the Bank of America South America Championship Challenge in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
