“The Mexican Championship for our filly was a very satisfying surprise. We never
thought we were going to be recognized in such way. It is a pride to have a horse like SF Banko Aguerrido.” Those were the words from Jorge Alquicira Bastida, spokesperson for Artemio Bastida Camacho and Artemio Bastida Maya, owners of Cuadra Rancho El Yukon and the awarded filly.
SF Banko Aguerrido was consigned to the Subasta Selecta de Anales (Yearling Selected Auction) in September 2011, and was repur- chased for $4,600 by Hector Roldan, who seven months later would sell the filly to her current owners. Roldan also bred and owned 2011 Mexican Champion SF Mexicana Brave.
On April 8, 2012, SF Banko Aguerrido made her debut at the Hipodromo de las Americas, finishing third. Her second race was a qualifier for the Futurity Mexico. She didn’t make the finals due to a strong anemia that was succesfully treated. Later, she won the consolation for the Futurity Garanones by 2 3/4 lengths.
During the qualifiers for the Futurity Subasta Selecta-RG3, SF Banko Aguerrido qualified with the fourth best time. During the final, on September 30, “all the most recog- nized jockeys were already engaged with other horses; last minute, we called Rodrigo Vallejo to ride her. He accepted and luckily there was a very good chemistry,” Jorge said. She won by 1 3/4 lengths in a time of :17.18.
Her last race was during the Campeonato Juvenile. She was bumped coming out of
the gates, which caused her to finish fourth. She ended her first year with total earning
of $154,996 and a record of 4-1-1 in 8 starts. Plans are for her to race as a 3-year-old in 2013 and breed her in 2014.
Cuadra Rancho El Yukon started racing Quarter Horses in match races in 1996. In 2010 they obtained their official registry at the Hipodromo de las Americas.
