Zoomin After Six led all Canadian runners in stakes wins and money earned in 2012, making him the unanimous choice for 2012 Canadian Champion.
Zoomin After Six is owned and was bred
in Ontario by Steve Hunter, who raced the gelding’s dam, Silk At Six, as well as his grand- dam, Silk Or Cash. Silk At Six won four of nine starts at Picov Downs in 2002-2003. Silk Or Cash won four of 12 starts, also racing solely at Picov Downs in the early 1990s. The third dam, Noorsilk, is a multiple allowance winner who was bred in Idaho and raced in the Intermountain region. Zoomin After Six is his dam’s first winner from two starters, and now her first champion.
Zoomin After Six is from the second crop of Grade 1 winner Zoomin For Bux, a U.S.- based stallion who stands at stud in Louisiana.
Zoomin After Six started five times as a 2-year-old in 2011, winning once—in the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity—and finishing second four times including in the Ontario Jackpot Futurity, his only start at Fort Erie.
As a 3-year-old in 2012, Zoomin After Six raced only at Ajax Downs. He started his year with a neck win in a 220-yard allowance race before finishing third in a trial to the Maple Leaf Derby. The gelded son of Zoomin For Bux returned to win the 300-yard Maple Leaf Derby easily by one length. It was the first of four consecutive victories.
After the Maple Leaf Derby, Zoomin After Six won two allowance races—a 350-yarder by 1 1/4 lengths and a 400-yarder wire-to-wire by a half-length while posting the meet’s fastest time at that distance to date—and a trial to the All Canadian Derby. The finals of that race was one of only two losses the gelding suffered in 2012 when he finished second, just a neck behind the winner, The FDD Map.
Trained by Janet Grice, Zoomin After Six ended his sophomore season by returning to the winner’s circle after a solid neck win in the Sept. 25 Ontario Bred Derby, when he went wire-to-wire under jockey Helen Vanek. It brought his yearly total earnings to $109,257, and his lifetime bankroll to $211,782. Zoomin After Six has never finished lower than third, with 12 of his 13 career races resulting in first- or second-place finishes.
Zoomin After Six makes a wire-to-wire run in the Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs.
