Crispyn’s winning connections include owner/trainer Manuel Rodriguez of MRB Racing LLC and jockey Alan Hernandez.
Manuel Rodriguez, who trains Crispyn, owned and bred the bay gelding in the name of his MRB Racing LLC.
MRB Racing has previously won with such horses as Jest Famous, whose three stakes scores included the 2018 Southwest Juvenile Championship-G1 at Zia Park; and homebred First Lady On Canvas, winner of the 2022 New Mexico Classic Futurity-RG2, also at Zia Park. In partnership with La Feliz Montana Ranch, MRB Racing owned Up And Coming, a two-time stakes winner at Los Alamitos.
Rodriguez bred Crispyn in New Mexico from First Place Cartel, who started only once in the 2013 Ruidoso Futurity trials. Rodriguez trained her for La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC. First Place Cartel has produced two winners in four starters.
Crispyn’s second dam is First Regards, the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of 2002. In addition to First Place Cartel, First Regards’ starters include stakes-placed Consider, Saving Faith, and Over The Moon BR.
Crispyn has now banked a total of $179,061 from just two starts, and the bay gelding remains unbeaten.
Miss Hi Tide (Woodbridge-Ms Riptide) was ridden by Adrian Ramos. She was trained by Wesley Giles, and she is owned by Uno Menos. The sorrel filly finished in second place in the finals. In her debut race, Miss Hi Tide won her trial by 1-length, qualifying the second fastest.
Wood Be Bad (Woodbridge-Start Somethin Bad), who won his trial, also his racing debut, by 1 1/4-lengths. He was the sixth fastest qualifier going into the finals, and he finished third in those. Jockey Alejandro Medina rode the gelding for trainer Ricardo Armendariz Jr. and owner Rancho El 48 LLC.
Completing the field were Who U Daddy (Big Daddy Cartel-Curlie Cue), Jess Have One More (Jesse James Jr-Wish You Had One To), Big Dudley Cartel (Big Daddy Cartel-Design Tobe A Winner), Play Again (Gronkowski-A Major Chamisa), Over Da Edge (Eye Am King-Da Edge), and Call Me Jessiecartel (Jess A Chicks-Lilly Cartel). Chicka Boom Babe was scratched at the gates.
Crispyn beats Miss Hi Tide by a neck at the wire.
