New Mexican Spring Futurity-RG2
CRISPYN
by Tracy Gantz
Crispyn showed his courage in the
final of the New Mexican Spring Futurity-RG2 at Sunland Park on April 1. In
only his second start, he gutted out a close victory in the rich 300-yard event.
In his March 10 New Mexican Spring Futurity trial, which was his racing debut, Crispyn went wire-to-wire and cruised home easily to win by 2 lengths.
In doing so, he qualified the fastest for the final, but he went off as the 3-1 second choice to 3-2 favorite Miss Hi Tide.
Jockey Alan Hernandez piloted Crispyn in both his trial and in the final.
They drew post 5 for the final, and when the gate opened, Crispyn broke in fourth. He moved up well and was in the lead by 1/2-length at the first call.
He really got into gear during the final stages of the race. Crispyn never gave up, winning by a neck in :15.211 for a 97 speed index.
