Milestones are not uncommon in horse racing, but there were several first-time achievements in the $159,095 Remington Park
Oaks at Remington Park on April 22. Not only was it the inaugural running of the Remington Park Oaks, but Kool N Foxy’s front-run-
ning victory marked the first stakes win in Oklahoma City for trainer Shawna Manriquez.
Ridden by jockey Daniel Torres, Kool N Foxy broke alertly from the five-gate in second and set sail for the lead after the start of the 400-yard dash.
The sorrel filly maintained a clear advan- tage through the lane and crossed the finish 3/4-length ahead of race favorite Southern Seis to score in a New Stakes Record of :19.791. The final clocking, which was not far off the :19.101 track record set in 2011 by Louisiana Senator, earned a 91 speed index.
“The number seven horse (Miss KT Perry) out- broke us, but she came back and was really game to the wire,” noted winning rider Daniel Torres.
