Kool N Foxy’s winning connections include owner Thomas Scheckel, trainer Shawna Manriquez and jockey Daniel Torres.
Owned by Thomas Scheckel of Bellevue, Iowa, Kool N Foxy improved her record to 9-4- 2-0, and the $63,638 winner’s share of the purse increased her lifetime bankroll to $123,414.
It was the second stakes score for Kool N Foxy, who also annexed the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge last year at two.
Bred in Oklahoma by Jerry Cate, Kool N Foxy is produced from the Walk Thru Fire winning mare Kool Fire, and she was a $40,000 purchase in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in New Mexico in 2021.
The impressive win proved especially mean- ingful for trainer Manriquez, who dedicated the race to her late mother.
“My mom passed away last year, and this filly was her pick,” said the trainer, who ponied her charge to the gate ahead of the race. “She would come see her in the barn in the morn- ings and the filly just set out to make her happy. I went behind the gate, so I wouldn’t get too nervous. Daniel (Torres) was really great in the race. It was beautiful.”
Runner-up Southern Seis (Tres Seis- Southern Miss), ridden by Roman Cruz, finished a game second for owner Zareth Juarez and trainer Lucio Espiritu. Flag Ranch LLC bred the multiple stakes-placed filly in Oklahoma.
Miss KT Perry (PYC Paint Your Wagon-KT Perry), with jockey Cristian Esqueda aboard, pressed the winner in the early stages and held third, just a neck behind the second-place fin- isher in a solid outing. The bay filly, who was
bred in Oklahoma by Randy and Stacy Hill, is owned by Leann Burns, and is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill.
Jess Roll Me Over (Mr Jess Perry-Corona Over Ice), AJ Fast Corona (Apollitical Jess- Fast Prize Corona), Sheslosthatluvnfeeln
(Hez Our Secret-Shades of Blues Girl), Kiss My Roana (Kiss My Hocks-Glory Rider), Miss Ellens Angel (Coronado Cartel-Simply An Angel), and Double Didget (The Fiscal Cliff-First Black Rose) completed the order of finish. JND Wagon was scratched.
