A TRES OF EAGLE
by Michael Cusortelli
ATres Of Eagle, a 4-year-old son of One Fabulous Eagle racing for Bella Vista Farms of Arcola, Illinois, earned his second stakes win of the Remington Park meet with his 1 1/4-length victory in the $100,000 Dee Raper Sooner State Stakes-RG1 for Oklahoma-breds on April 22.
Ridden by Ruben Castro and aided by a reported 7-mph tail wind, A Tres Of Eagle covered 400 yards in :19.610. Eddie Lee Willis prepped the bay gelding.
A Tres Of Eagle was stretching out in distance off of his 1 1/4-length win in the 350-yard Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2 at Remington Park on April 1. According to Castro, A Tres Of Eagle won the Sooner State despite standing a bit flat-footed as the gates opened.
“He recovered quickly after the first three of four steps, and then he really got rolling,” the rider said. “His
NMHBA Stakes-RG2
last hundred yards in this race were stronger than his win in the Mr Jet Moore.
“My horse has finally matured,” Castro added. “He really knows what to do. He doesn’t waste any time.”
A Tres Of Eagle was bred by The Mixer Ranch, and he was purchased by Bella Vista Farms for $40,000 at the 2020 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in New Mexico. A half brother to Grade 2 winner A Dash Of Sign, the gelding
isoutofATresOfPaint,a daughter of 2001 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Tres Seis, and the winner of the 2016 Remington Park Derby-RG3.
A Tres Of Eagle’s second dam, the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare First Painted Sign, won two graded futuri- ties in 2010, including the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity.
Campaigned in two states, including New Mexico, A Tres Of Eagle has won three
of 13 races, and the $58,200 winner’s share of the purse pushed his earnings to $154,702.
Apollitical Payoff (Apollitical Jess-Seis The Royal Cash) banked the $19,400 runner- up share of the purse for his owner, Brenda Reiswig. Edwin Escobedo rode the homebred 4-year-old gelding for trainer Jason Olmstead.
Nobby Walsh (Jess Good Candy-Shanachee) finished third, 1 3/4-lengths behind A Tres Of Eagle. L. Salvador Martinez rode the 5-year-old gelding for owner HWD Racing Stables LLC and trainer Hemerio Hernandez.

WOODYS STORM
by Danny Camp
Woodys Storm has now won her last three out of four races, with her latest being the $100,000 NMHBA Stakes-RG2 at Sunland Park on April 1.
Ridden by Luis Martinez, Woodys Storm broke in second, but quickly moved into the lead. She crossed the wire a neck in front, completing the 400 yards in :19.547, while posting a 99 speed index.
Woodys Storm secured the $60,000 win- ner’s share of the purse for
owner Kenia Pinela Marioni
and trainer Jorge Sanchez Jr.
“She pulled up good after her last race, so we put her in here,” said Jorge Sanchez Jr. “She has been getting better every race.
“Here, she ran the race of her life. She is a laid back kind of filly and easy to
be around,” he continued. “Sometimes she doesn’t break hard and that causes
problems. We have done some gate work and a little equipment change and it’s made a difference. When she breaks good, she’s hard to outrun. Luis didn’t have to get after her much, but he just kept her attention.”
When asked about her future, Sanchez said, “We are going to see how she acts and maybe go to Albuquerque next. We will lis- ten to her and let her tell us what she likes.”
Meluking Ranch LLC bred Woodys Storm out of race money
earner Indi Storm, dam of 100% winners from two starters. Woodys Storm is her first stakes winner.
KJ Daddys Money (Big Daddy Cartel-KJ Kiss Me Goodbye) had to settle for seond for owner Ruben Mares and John & Kathy Lee. Trained by Wesley Giles, the filly was ridden by Adrian Ramos. KJ Daddys Money won the Sunburst
Stakes earlier this year as well as the 2022 Zia Futurity-RG1. She was also third in the 2022 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes and a finalist in the 2022 Mountain Top Futurity-G2.
Wood Dee Queen (Eye Am King-Miss Woody Dee) was third under Ricky Ramirez for owners J & SM Inc. and Lane & Don Reynolds and trainer Fred Danley. The filly was a runner-up in the Shue Fly Stakes-G2 and Sunburst Stakes earlier this year.
