Martha recalls how she got to ride Red Man Bay this way. “I actually bought him for a granddaddy for his granddaughter. I bought him in October, and I wanted to ride him for a year. But then I got hurt in the accident at Austin. So, the little girl went on and she won everything. They actually cloned him, and the clone is winning. He was a great horse.”
The sire of Red Man Bay was Dinky’s Red Man by Dinky Quail by Dinky Bars by Johnny Bars by Sugar Bars. Johnny Bars was out of Figure 8 Miss Bear Cat by Leo. The dam of Dinky’s Red Man was Little Red Sandy by Leo Sanman by Leo San by Leo. Leo Sanman was out of Gates Mabel by Chico. Chico was a full brother to San Siemon, the broodmare sire of Leo San. This gives Leo Sanman a breeding pattern of 3x2 to the full brothers Chico and San Siemon. The dam of Little Red Sandy was Roan Sandy by Clint Higgins, and her dam was Old Red Sandy by Clint Higgins. This gives Roan Sandy a breeding pattern of 1x2 to Clint Higgins. Clint Higgins was sired by Midnight Jr by Midnight by Badger
by Peter McCue. Midnight Jr was the broodmare sire of Miss Night Bar, the dam of Jet Deck.
The dam of Red Man Bay was Miss Take A Chance by Boston Lad by Boston Mac by Triple Chick. Boston Mac is remembered mostly for his being a top halter horse. But he was an All American Futurity finalist in 1970. The dam of Boston Lad was Pasamonte Lass by Pasamonte Paul, the 1964 AQHA Racing Champion Stallion and Champion Aged Stallion. The dam of Miss Take A Chance was a Thoroughbred mare by Fort Kelly and out of Pixie Jo by New Prince by Nasrullah and New Prince was out of Princess Lea by Bull Lea.
 The eight horses we have looked at are Martha Josey’s Amazin’ Eight that shows the crossover effect on our barrel horses. When you listen to her and read about these horses, you find that they each had a different running style and approach to the barrels. She also notes that they were fun to ride, and they were having fun and dedicated to what they were doing. They are not the only good ones she has ridden, but they are key individuals in her many years of riding barrel horses and solidifying her place in history as one of the all-time great trainers, riders and teachers in the industry. And folks, she
is not done yet. She is currently involved with a full schedule of Martha Josey Clinics for 2023.
 Jennie by My Pardner by Uncle Jimmy Gray. The dam of Joe B Jammin was Jamick’s Nedra by Ned Rey by the great cutting horse Rey Jay, a King Ranch Old Sorrel bred horse. The dam of Jamick’s Nedra was Chesapeake Bay by Chicadoo by the Thoroughbred Custus Rastus by Requested. The dam of Chesapeake Bay was Georgie Wolfe by Nero Wolfe by Third Reader by Three Bars, and Third Reader was out of Josie Reed by Joe Reed P-3. The dam of Georgie Wolfe was Journey Adair II by King George another King Ranch Old Sorrel Quarter Horse.

Red Man Bay and Martha were on the road in 2000 to qualify for the NFR finals giving her a record of qualifying in a fifth decade. But when an accident sidelined them both, they were unable to qualify. But that didn’t stop them, as they went on to make the finals of many
